Now in Las Palmas - Crew available for Carrabean / West Indies
▶️ Currently anchored in Las Palmas on the Abelone (Norwegian flag), feel free to come knock and introduce yourself in person (it's much friendlier ✨)
? Trainee crew member for a motivated crew! Freshly arrived in the Canary Islands from Portugal, still learning from the last 850 nautical miles aboard the Pelangi, willing, naturally calm, and cheerful. Sharing, motivation, dedication, and kindness are values I would love to embrace when joining a crew heading to the Caribbean!
Switzerland ? Brest ? Barcelona ⛵️? La Línea / Gibraltar ? Alcoutim ⛵️ Agadir ⛵️ Las Palmas
? After crossing Europe from north to south and bidding farewell to the old continent (aboard the Pelangi, welcomed and trained by Dhara (coopskipper.org), a captain I found both demanding and a great teacher), my gaze is now definitively turning westward for the big leap to the Caribbean. But before that, it's important to meet the right people, with whom I can share three weeks and thousands of nautical miles of sailing.
??️⚧️ My name is Sélène (Tortue is my nickname), I'll soon be turning 25, I'm an electronics technician by training, and a writer by passion. At the end of October, I left my native Switzerland for an 8-month backpacking trip, driven by a complex set of desires: to escape the cold and the grayness that makes me depressed (if I'm being completely honest), but also to question the comfort I've always known, to confront the fears and assumptions I have about myself and the world we live in. My eyes then turned to the Dominican Republic, my second home and that of my father, a country that has always been foreign to me, with, as you might have guessed, the choice to reject the easiest path.
? If I had to describe my personality, my friends often say I'm a rather calm but resourceful person. I consider myself cheerful and energetic, but I enjoy intense discussions just as much as moments of silence, which are equally precious.

? Since we must mention the unpleasant aspects of the sea: I'm not immune to seasickness, but Dimentrinate works well for me. During these past six days at sea, I initially tended to sleep a lot off-duty, but eventually got tired of sleeping and started tackling all my sewing projects. In short, I don't yet have the guts of a seasoned skipper, but I'm definitely getting there and have the tools to succeed. ? What I hope to bring to a crew:
- My two hands, my two eyes, and my whole mind to everything involved in sailing (maneuvering, galley, watchkeeping, ship's kitty, steering, planning, preparations, DIY, maintenance, and all that jazz)
- My vegan Bolognese sauce, my shark plushie for peaceful nights, and my energetic playlists for steering in rough weather
- Sharing what makes me and my journey, writing, meeting new people, lots of reflection, and learning
What I hope to gain from it:
- Technical experience, autonomy in basic maneuvers, and a foundation in more complex aspects
- A good time, which certainly won't always be pleasant, but which I hope will be filled with joy, support, and sharing, far from land, from any notifications on our phones to disturb us, filled with self-reflection and learning from others
☀️Don't hesitate to contact me so we can have the chance to meet, Perhaps we could have the opportunity to share these three nautical miles together. You can write to me directly on WhatsApp; I have limited internet access, so you'll get a faster response: +41 78 766 78 62
Thank you for reading!
Best regards, Selene
