Looking for Indian Ocean crossing / sailing Africa!
Hello!
My name is Max and I have recently discovered the beauty of sailing, and I really want to continue!
I am currently in Phuket, Thailand, and hoping to (eventually) make my way to Tanzania, but open to all possibilities.
I have been traveling, living, and working all over the world for the last years. I like to explore different ways of traveling - I used to spend all my summers hitchhiking around Europe, I traveled by wooden fisherboat in the Amazon for a few weeks, bought a bicycle in Thailand last year and discovered the beauty of bikepacking, and most recently, discovered sailing and the ocean!
In July 2025 I joined a beautiful sailboat and crew sailing around Malaysian Borneo and spent two months on the water. I loved it! The stories I heard from ocean crossings touched me and it is something I would absolutely love to experience as well...
I am definitely still learning, but after around 2000nm and reading all the sailing books I could find on the boat while there (hello Sailing for Dummies!), I know the basics and can be helpful around a boat. I even spent a few weeks completely on my own on the boat after our trip - and both me and the boat survived, so that's always a good sign.
I'd be happy to help with anything - cleaning, cooking, taking care of children... and of course, be as much involved as possible in everything related to sailing! I really want to continue learning and would love to be part of a nice crew. I am easygoing, open, flexible, and really value honesty and open communication while being part of a crew.
I have a background in Journalism, enjoy storytelling, writing articles, and made a few small documentaries. I enjoy being creative, good conversations, and good books, though I think I enjoy most things, as I am very curious and always want to give everything a try.
At the moment I am in Phuket, Thailand, hoping to make my first crossing across the Indian Ocean. My ultimate goal is to make it to Tanzania in August for a wedding - so any opportunities in this direction would be absolutely amazing, but I am open to anything!
