Looking for a Friendship or Novice Crew position
Hi all! My name is Briggs and I am a 26 year old currently living on the south island of NZ. I am on a year long working holiday visa experiencing a new part of the world! My current visa expires Nov 1st 2026, and I figured no better way to leave the country than by boat!
I have minimal experience sailing, (well none actually) but it has always been a goal of mine to gain more knowledge about sailing and sea life. I am in search of someone (or group of people) who would be willing to teach me the ropes (quite literally) of life at sea. To clarify, I'm not looking for a charity hand out here. I fully recognize the importance of having a competent crew while at sea and that trusting each member and their level of knowledge is of the upmost importance. With that being said I will be all ears and eyes when learning how to navigate the boat and more.
A bit about me: I grew up in a small state on the east coast of the US. After graduating high school I packed up my things and moved to Salt Lake City, UT to chase the snow (and attend uni). After completing my nursing degree I joined the medical workforce as a pediatric nurse. Three and half years later I found myself craving a change. Not only in day-to-day doings but also in physical location. So, here we are. Settled in Wanaka, NZ waiting for the snow to fall and starting to plan the next adventure.
What I can offer: This goes without saying but obviously I will be willing to help with any and all boat chores/maintenance. Shared cooking and cleaning on the boat. Night watches (once competent). Card game companionship. Good laughs and chats. First aid care (hopefully no needs any). And most importantly, respect to the boat and sea and all other crew members!
