New Sailor Seeking Hands-On Crewing & Mile-Building Opportunities
I’m a motivated new sailor based in Florida looking to build real-world experience aboard cruising monohulls with experienced, safety-conscious skippers.
I’m currently at the beginning of my sailing journey and believe in being completely transparent about experience: I have 0 sea miles at present. I’m enrolled in an intensive ASA 101, 103 & 104 liveaboard course in Fort Lauderdale from September 26–October 2, 2026, after which I’m looking to continue learning through hands-on crewing, coastal passages and progressively more challenging offshore experience.
I’m not looking to simply occupy a berth or collect miles. I want to become useful crew. I’m particularly interested in opportunities where I can participate fully in sail handling, helming, navigation, anchoring and docking, watchkeeping/night watches, passage planning, weather assessment and the everyday responsibilities of keeping a cruising yacht safe and functional underway.
I’m comfortable taking instruction, asking questions when I don’t know something, and doing my share of cooking, cleaning and general boat duties. Safety, good communication and sound seamanship matter much more to me than rushing into passages beyond my current abilities.
My immediate goal is to reinforce my ASA training through coastal and moderate offshore sailing with experienced skippers, build meaningful sea time and night-watch experience, and gradually develop into dependable passage crew. Longer term, I intend to progress into advanced offshore sailing and eventually undertake major ocean passages—but I believe in earning that experience step by step.
I’m especially interested in monohull cruising yachts, although I’m open to other worthwhile training opportunities. Florida, the Bahamas, Caribbean and U.S. East Coast are particularly convenient, but I’m willing to travel for an exceptional opportunity.
If you’re an experienced skipper who enjoys developing enthusiastic crew and you’re looking for someone reliable, engaged and genuinely eager to learn, I’d be very happy to hear from you.
