Motivated Crew Available for Westbound Transat (East -> West) – November 2026
Hi everyone, and thanks for taking a moment to read my post!
My name is Gaëtan, I'm 21, and I'm an engineering student at CentraleSupélec in France. I am looking for a boat to cross the Atlantic by sail, heading towards the Caribbean!
I was supposed to cross to do the ARC 2026 crossing but my boat broke its rudder blade
**In short:** I sail regularly and will be available to cast off starting in December 2026! I am looking to join an East-to-West transatlantic crossing, and I am highly flexible regarding the departure port and the final destination (the Caribbean, Latin America, etc.). I am very motivated to help with boat prep, maintenance, and doing a few sea trials beforehand so we can get to know each other.
**My sailing experience:** I grew up sailing catamarans every summer at sailing school (Hobie Cat 12, then Hobie Cat 16). Additionally, I regularly sail cruising yachts for a week at a time with my parents, friends, or my university's sailing club. Because of this, I have good sea legs, I'm comfortable moving around the deck, and I am very familiar with sail handling and maneuvers. I also hold a Level 3 certification from Les Glénans (a well-known French sailing school, roughly equivalent to RYA Competent Crew / Day Skipper).
**About me:** Of course, a transatlantic crossing isn't just about sailing! I am an easy-going guy who is very used to living in close quarters and shared communities (boarding school, student flatshares, and being a Scout leader). I love cooking, chatting, and getting to know people. I also play the guitar and enjoy singing and dancing.
I am highly resourceful and completely fine with roughing it. I love camping, have been a Scout for 12 years, and a Scout leader for the last 2 years. As a result, I'm well-accustomed to bad weather, a lack of comfort, and dealing with unexpected hiccups with a positive attitude!
**I speak fluent French, English, and Spanish.**
**My background:** After 2 years of intensive preparatory classes, I got into my current engineering school. I now have the opportunity to take a gap year, and I've decided to use this time to explore: a transatlantic crossing, hitch-sailing, and a road trip across the Americas!
If you are a skipper, please don't hesitate to shoot me a message to chat. I am open to all kinds of projects!
Fair winds, Gaëtan
