Always ready to sail

Hello! I'm James and I love sailing. I am an excellent cook, I know a lot of good stories from around the world and I really love being on boats. I have some experience of longer passages. I have sailed numerous long passages; from the Bay of Islands NZ to Melbourne, several Bass Strait crossings, deliveries from Melbourne to Sydney, as well as shorter cruises around the Victorian coast and day sails across Port Phillip Bay. More recently I have crossed the Indian Ocean from Darwin Australia to Durban South Africa, after rounding the Cape of Good Hope I then sailed to Barbados via St Helena and Ascension Islands. We then crossed the north Atlantic, via the Azores to the UK. I work hard and take the challenges and responsibilities of being a crew member very seriously, I'm safe and steady and will take my turn at watch with no issues.

I've been a lot of things so far, I've been an apprentice chef, a commercial cleaner, an insurance underwriter, a fraud prevention officer and I'm currently a book seller. I hold a degree in Literature and I'm currently studying psychology. I'm pretty easy going, if you want to talk I have plenty so say but if you want to sit quietly I always have a book. I like to keep things clean on the boats I sail on but I realise that's my thing, I'm happy to clean and I won't get upset about it if others don't so much. I also love cooking, I'm happy to do all the cooking.

I think what I like best about sailing, is the wonderful feeling of working together to survive and explore a part of the world that is both incredibly beautiful and quite hostile to human life. It's a great expression of the human capacity to overcome and enjoy the variety of the world. I love sailing more than hitch hiking, which I am also a great fan of. This is actually quite difficult to write. What I want to say, is that I'm a friendly, youngish chap who loves being at sea. I am building my experience but it is limited but I have a good sense for weather, good sailing instincts, I'm responsible, tough and energetic. I am getting used to directing less experienced sailors and taking a more active, planning, skippering role. I really want to learn and one day have my own boat to explore in and pass on the knowledge to others. Until then, I am more than capable of getting your boat where you want to go.
