Deckhand - Sailed in the NL - SP - FR - MO - PT - IT - UK - GER - DK -TR - GR
After a holiday in the Netherlands and a career as programmer and UX designer, I decided to follow my passion and start sailing professionally in 2015. Since this time, I have developed myself into a seasoned deckhand with experience on various types of sailing vessels (22-50 meter in length, from traditional dutch ships to modern yachts). I currently have sailed more than 12.250 Nm and have done charter, yacht deliveries and regattas. During my time as a deckhand on charter ships, we had in between 16 to 36 passengers on board (plus 2-3 crew). As most of my experience was gained on Dutch waters, I also learned to speak the Dutch language in order to be able to communicate with other maritime personnel and guests.
My other passion is maritime photography and my work is on my own website (www.ricpicks.de) and my (regatta) work has been sold and published in on/offline maritime magazines. I am known for my good work ethics, accuracy, punctuality and having the heart of a sailor.

Maritime related skills
-Standard sailing/deckhand skills; e.g. mooring, docking, going through locks, changing sails.
-More advanced sailing skills; e.g. safety on board while sailing (e.g. MOB), navigation (planning day trips/longer travel), watch keeping (day/night, single person watch), chart work, passage planning (tidal and non-tidal), trimming, reefing.
-Sailing / Working under pressure due to weather conditions (gale force winds) or time pressure (appointments, time constraints, wishes of guests etc.).
-Entertaining/training/education of charter guests; e.g. introduction to sailing, team building and motivational training, support during other activities - creating a good bond and mood on board is a daily driver for me.
