Watch: 6 year's of me sailing - Home is where the anchor drops

Boson and delivery crew with global ambitions.

Working and living at sea since 2015

I have a "can do” attitude. I do my best, work hard while sailing each and every day.

In 2015 I started to work at sea, chartering and delivering. Right now I am looking for new adventures and new things to learn. I have plenty experience in yachting and traditional sailing, long passages, including crossing the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. If there is a problem I am able to find a solution and if not, I will learn it! I stood around 500 h of night watches on vessels up to 55 meters and I am comfortable doing so (see Log.pdf for details).

To date I have sailed in the waters of 17 countries encompassing the whole of Europe, the Atlantic and the Carib. My desire is to go further and maybe even circumnavigate the globe. I do like the lifestyle on sea and it is no problem for me to stay extended periods.

I bring 8 years+ of almost continues sailing experience to the table and have the log’s / captains to back it up. Regardless of sailing, I try to be a true team player. When ever I do have the time, I help the crew on and below deck. Doing the laundry for the Stews – no problem. Give a helping hand to the engineer – consider it done.

Chartering

I always felt that it is my obligation to make sure that guests are entertained, feel good, have fun and that they feel welcome and honored – none the less, they are actually paying us. I usually entertain on an intellectual and physical level as well as give our guests the necessary direction on board to keep everyone save and sound. Explaining everything that is needed and give them a feeling of purpose and belonging. In the past I have been that person on board who does knot courses and talk about seamanship and make that a little adventure in it self.

If the conditions are unearthly, I'm one of the guys who keeps a cool head, is laser focused, asses the situation and make educated decision or follow orders without hesitation.

On Deck – maintenance

I am proficient in judging, repairing and maintenance of various systems on a sailing vessel. I am not a mechanic nor an engineer but I am eager to learn new things. Over the years varnishing, rust removal and painting jobs were plentiful, so I know what I am doing there while working tidy. Pluming, electrical work, carpentry and (fancy) rope work are a few of my trades as well. You need a splice, traditional fender, sail repair or maybe an endless loop? With the right tools in my hand I really enjoy these tasks. I am able to stitch up sails and keep the boat clean to an above average standard.

On Deck – sailing

If it comes to sailing I am hands on and a bit of a fanatic. I do like to give the autopilot some rest if possible, not only for fun but for situations when it is essential to know how the boat reacts and to extend my sailing skills. Over the years I sailed in some heavy weather and I admit that I do like these occasions. If my watch is over you can be sure that the deck is clean and tidy. I am not skimping out on work that is obvious - I am not just passing bye and let other do the work. Clean and tidy ship = happy captain and crew. I participated in a few big sailing vessel regattas too.

I do have high load experience and I owned a startup business for around 4 years. I am a tech savvy person and I bring a few German trades to the table: tidy, timely, accurate, detail oriented, clean and organized.

I have a European Union passports so I can work anywhere in Europe, the Mediterranean and it is fairly easy for me to obtain necessary papers to go where we need to go. I am proficient with navigation in tidal and none tidal waters. Of cause I am used to fill in the logbook and press the needed buttons when necessary. I am used to plan week trip before hand, change the plans accordingly to the circumstances (guests, wind, weather) and execute on them. I am proficient in Marad as well. MLC, ISM, and GRB are no foreign words for me either. I worked with these systems extensivley.

I really like cooking and I am well trained. I can cook all sorts of dishes to the delight of the crew.

As well as being a skilled and valuable asset to sailing vessels, I can be funny (not necessarily laughing about your jokes), I am direct, I am mature and fit, on time, adventure seeking, a sailing fanatic and a professional team player and builder.

I'm sure we'll all have a great time!
