Captain/Engineer/First Mate

Have recently wound up 30 yr insurance consulting practice and now pursuing full time professional yachting activity by 2019. I am educated, fit, non-smoking, and youthful 63 year old Canadian seeking long term employment on well found yacht. Until that position if found I will consider delivery work and other types of short term engagements. Currently hold numerous sailing and diving certifications and will soon hold Master of Yachts 200T Unlimited certification for both power and sail. Business experience has taught me many skills: managing and motivating people; computers, software and network troubleshooting; accounting practices, financial management, etc. Skilled, hard-working enthusiastic leader. Responsible, fun, easy to be around, and a team player. Growing up in a farming environment, involved in long haul trucking during my early years, I have considerable experience operating and maintaining large machinery. Over the past 18 years I have amassed considerable experience on sailing and motor yachts holding both skipper and crew positions. My engineering skills have resolved countless electrical and mechanical issues whilst underway, and my culinary skills have been welcome in most galleys. I have accumulated more some 30,000 miles combined on both sail and motor yachts (approximately 80% and 20% respectively). Have sailed Canadian west coast (cold) waters, Caribbean islands from Martinique north, four months in Bahamas during 2018 season, East Coast USA, two W to E Atlantic crossings, and a Martinique to South Pacific voyage via Panama. Have minimal experience in the Med but I am a student of geography and learn quickly. I will welcome opportunity for more personal discussion regarding potential engagements and upon request would be pleased to provide my detailed CV and references to interested employers. Thank you for considering me as a candidate for employment. Highlights of Recent Activity: -- Mar-Apr 2018: Delivery captain on Hatteras 60 from Bahamas to USVI; -- Jan-Mar 2018: Captain, delivery Marquises 56 (catamaran) from USVI to Bahamas, completed five charters between Exumas and Nassau hosting executive staff and families from owner's business; -- Jul-Aug 2017: Divemaster course in Gibraltar (100 dives) -- May-Jun 2017: First mate on Discovery 55 from Antigua to Gibraltar; -- Jan-Mar 2017: Second Captain on new build Nordhavn 63. Oversaw diving operations (Nitrox system onboard) in Sea of Cortes, Mexico; -- Nov/15-Feb/16: First mate for delivery aboard a new build 21 meter aluminum expedition yacht from Martinique to Tahiti; -- March-Apr 2009: Delivery crew on Oyster 56 from Sint Maarten to Barcelona; -- And more ...

Q: What’s your favourite boating experience? Atlantic Crossing - St Maarten to Barcelona onboard Oyster 56. Love blue water sailing best!!!

Q: What’s your worst boating experience? Dismasted 800 miles east of Bahamas aboard 68' New Horizon Ketch. In a night time squall, bow stem let go, headsail flew over mast like a kite and pulled both poles back down towards stern. Flattened dodger and fortunate there were no serious injuries. Invaluable lessons learned on how to manage catastrophic failures. Lessons also learned about sailing rigs, problem areas and what to look for to prevent such failures. I am a wiser sailor because of this - knock on wood I never experience such an accident again.
