New England Sailing - 2025
Updated June 2025- I live in New Hampshire and I’m seeking short-term sailing opportunities here in New England, preferably NH or Maine. Daysails aren’t always possible due to the distance I have to travel, but long weekends would be ideal. I was a previous liveaboard for 5 years until Covid sadly derailed my cruising plans. Since then, I’ve sailed Casco and Penobscot Bays in Maine. I also helped move a boat from Massachusetts to North Carolina. In summer of 2024 I sailed in San Francisco Bay, the Chesapeake, and Nova Scotia. This past winter I sailed in the Bahamas. Most recently, I sailed in Coastal North Carolina, Oriental to Ocracoke on the Outer Banks. I have a sailing goal of making it from Northeast Harbor, Maine to the Canadian border. I will then have covered the entire East Coast of the US by water!
My other experiences:
* Boat refit in West Palm Beach, FL Oct 2018-May 2020
* 1,035 mm from VA to West Palm Beach, FL, November 2017
* 1,035 nm from West Palm Beach, FL to Maryland (offshore and ICW), May 2017
* 880 nm from Clearwater, FL to Key West, Cuba, Dry Tortugas, around FL Keys, Dec 2016 - April 2017
* 987 mi on the ICW from Hampton, VA to Stuart, FL (Oct - Nov 2016)
* 550 nm sailing the fabulous New England coast from Greenport, NY to Southwest Harbor, ME (July-Sept 2016)
Prior experiences:
My passage from Curacao to Panama was my first open water experience...a 730 nautical mile trial-by-fire in Dec 2015. I have since sailed to Providencia, Colombia and Placencia, Belize. I have lived in Panama off and on for 7 months (Shelter Bay, Balboa and Bocas del Toro). I have completed 5 Panama Canal transits.
This is what I seek in a crewing situation:
I’m seeking a sailing experience with a safety conscious and experienced skipper on a well maintained sailboat. I am not afraid to help out but I am NOT looking to join a 'project boat'. You must be honest and trustworthy and I will be the same. NO heavy drinkers! Please have a working head, working refrigeration and reliable navigation equipment. (And by this I mean: composting head is OK, ice in coolers is OK, iPad and navigation apps are OK). I’ve sailed on MANY different types of boats and I’m very adaptable.
I'm fun-loving and hard working, and always anxious to learn. I am honest and respectful. I am extremely organized and run a clean and tidy ship. I will happily help with any chores. I like to cook but I'll gladly share the task or do clean up duty! I love the outdoors...hiking, kayaking, beach combing, and taking walks and exploring new towns and harbors. I have a talent for finding low cost, fun things to do in new places. Ideally, I’d like to find someone willing to share activities. I enjoy sipping a cold beverage at sunset. I also enjoy the hours of quiet solitude while sailing and am able to keep myself occupied. I am very much still learning to sail and hope I’d find a patient skipper.
The Financial contributions are something I have to consider carefully before I join any boat and requires further discussion with any potential skipper.
I have known the joy of sharing the cruising lifestyle with a loving partner. I do not 'presume' any type of relationship when I join a boat and my priority is to get back on the water and sail. However, I remain open to the possibility of friendship or romance.
I look forward to new sailing opportunities!
Crew
Joyce was excellent crew. She is experienced and comfortable on the water. She is welcome back any time. I highly recommend Joyce.
