The daughter of a son of a son of a sailor, I grew up a couple of blocks from the beach and taught myself to surf as a teen. Sailing seemed boring compared to walking on water. Though now I realize that building a home at sea is brilliant, and I’m damning myself for taking so long to get here. Having played around on motorboats as a kid, windsurfed, and scuba dived, I’m at home in the ocean, though a visitor on sailboats.
Experience aboard, I’ve solo sailed a 20’ mono-haul for 132 days, performing in rough waters within the San Francisco Bay. Blue water sailing as a helmsman on a 50’ Hans Christian Anderson from Santa Cruz to San Francisco, and a 40’ catamaran from on the opposite direction, we held our course by the keeping the frame of the back stays aligned with the stars, my eye attuned to the natural light of night permitting me to steady myself on ten foot seas crashing starboard.
Studied liberal arts in the American northeast, worked for the man in commercial arts, worked for myself a bit, lived in the jungles of Costa Rica and on the beaches of Nicaragua, I finally hopped the pond six months ago to Paris. My French is functional though needs some work. Learning the mandolin by ear, so it’s taking time but the feeling is right, so I’ll keep to it.
Looking for a boat to island hop around the Mediterranean for the rest of summer. Then, I’ll figure out what comes next. Would like the cost of living and eating covered. If there’s a chance to free dive and fish, that’s ideal. Just need a little time to read, write and play music. Otherwise, I’m your deckhand, cook, nanny, publicist, social media pundit, trick roper, personal shopper, and Girl Friday.
