Sailing couple - currently in Canada!
Though we are catamaran sailors at heart, our ideal crewing opportunity would be on a sailing vessel (mono or cat) equipped for living off-grid. Ideally we would have a cabin to ourselves (not hot-bunking with other crew). Our intention would be to join a crew as equal partners, meaning we expect to share all tasks with other crew/skipper/captain. We are looking for the opportunity to explore and enjoy the trip and destinations as much as everyone else on board! Our ultimate goal and hope is to be part of all the maintenance and running of the boat to learn as much as possible, while exploring new places and making new friends.
We are Kevin and Jeannine: a married couple, 38 years male and 33 years female. We are no drugs, no smoking, fit and have a passion for exploration. Assets we would bring include divemaster, ability to cook and clean/maintain, and are security conscious (military & police background). Both have American Sailing Association advanced coastal cruising (++), and have skippered a bareboat crew of 10 people on a 44 ft sailing catamaran in the BVI (2014) and a crew of 8 on a 40 ft sailing cat in Thailand (2018). We both volunteer with our local Marine Search and Rescue unit and get to spend time on a RHIB (a fast rescue craft) practicing lots of safety drills such as crew overboard, close quarter maneuvering, navigating at night, navigating by radar, towing, etc. We are also members of a local sailing co-op where we get to go out on small cruising monohulls (Catalina 27's with tiller arm and 28' with wheel) to explore the southern Gulf Islands of British Columbia. Our other interests include hiking, kayaking, diving, good food, and good company. Activities we would like to learn and/or get better at include free diving, kite boarding, and really anything to do with being in or on the water!
Most recent sailing experience is from June to December 2021 in the South Pacific. We spent 3.5 months in French Polynesia on a 44ft Voyage Catamaran. We arrived in Fiji end of August 2021 after completing a 14 day passage from Tahiti. We sailed around Fiji on the cat for a few weeks, then stayed on land for 3 weeks, then hopped onto a Warwick 53 mono for 6 weeks. After that we flew back to Canada Dec 25, 2021.
Feel free to reach out to us for future voyage plans if you think we might be a mutual good fit! We are available via email, or a Whatsapp phone number can be provided, and it would be our pleasure to speak with you and answer any further questions you might have!
