Looking to crew on a transatlantic crossing from West to East for competent couple
Ahoy sailors,
My partner (Stefan, 24) and I (Eva, 24) are looking to crew on a transatlantic crossing in May 2020 from anywhere west to anywhere east. Directly after the crossing we’ll be actively in the market for our own sailboat to sail around the world with, so we would like to be involved with ANYTHING regarding this crossing (including night watches, proviant, maintenance, navigation etc) so we can learn as much as possible from this trip! Naturally, we will contribute in the costs.
Stefan knows the basics of sailing, but since his life passion is kitesurfing since he was 8, he has learned to read the weather and windframes very well. He works as a kite repairman at a kiteshop and is very good with his hands in general. He has his ICC inland, First Aid and speaks Dutch, English and a bit German. He is an outdoor instructor, so for almost all outdoorsports he has some license and he is accustomed to a primitive lifestyle with limited food, water and electricity (long hikes for example).
I’ve been sailing with my parents since I was 3 months old, on a woodcore 30ft sailboat my dad had built himself, and I had sailing lessons as a kid. When I was 10 y/o, they traded the sailboat for a 100 y/o 41ft tugboat they still have to this day. More recently I’ve done a refreshment sailing course, shared a 26ft wooden English Folkboat with my brother and father, and I’ve been training to do a race season on a J22 (unfortunately it never got to actual races). But even though I am very familiar with the lifestyle aboard and know how to sail, I still have a lot to learn about sailing long passages. I have my ICC inland + coastal, CWO 2 keelboat (Dutch license similar to RYA day skipper), First Aid and Marcom B (= Dutch SRC + Inmarsat). After the crossing I will be working as a harbor master for the season. I speak Dutch, English, a bit German, and a teeny tiny bit Spanish.
We would like to do this passage together to a) gain more experience for our own sailing adventures in the near future and b) to get a better estimation of the boat size that will suit our needs on long passages or extended times on the hook.
We are together for a couple years and moved in together for some time. We’ve never had screaming, dramatic fights before and deal with disagreements in a very calm and respectful manner, so guaranteed no screaming fighting couple on board. And even though we like each other very much, we also enjoy good company of others and spent time on our individual hobbies and projects, so we’re not dependent on each other (or others in general) for entertainment. We want to do this as a team!
Please drop a line you are interested in taking us as a crew!
Fair winds,
Stefan & Eva
PS. We would like to skype or, if possible, meet before the actual journey.
