Looking for Skipper/Deckhand Positions
Hi - I've just joined Crewbay. I'm looking forward to meeting some new people!
I am an enthusiastic person, with a positive attitude, and determined attitude towards my work and studies. I have experience of working in the service and outdoors industry, from which I have learnt practical skills, tolerance and teamwork. I can be relied upon to use my own initiative, with a well organised approach and an eye for detail. My interpersonal skills help to make me a sociable, confident and practical individual. I am hardworking and punctual also dedicated to providing excellent customer service in any job role. I am a trustworthy and dedicated person, who is passionately motivated and enthusiastic in all aspects of life. I believe myself to be a well-rounded and fair individual who keeps an optimistic and open mind in making every effort to work to my utmost potential.
I would like to be considered for the position of mate/bosun/deckhand. I have currently returned to the U.K to complete my MCA 200 ,<OOW 500 orals but looking for a new career venture exploring new seas on a larger yachts once this is accomplished. I have always gained the desire to follow a career in maritime industry through my passion for the ocean exploration and marine life.
I have have a managerial background as well as skippering over 5 years and my experience consists of sailing in the Arctic, Mediterranean, Alboran, Adriatic, Aegean, Ionian skippering and crewing. I believe I would make the suitable candidate for the post due to my extensive experience working within the Hospitality and Maritime Industry as outlined in my CV.
In my position of skipper for Navigate travel a big part of my role was teaching mixed groups of people every week how to sail. From my experience working in schools and coaching I found this very enjoyable educating the crew on my passion for sailing. The wide range of personalities and the dynamics of each group differed every week and would set different challenges in how I would adapt my approach with these individuals whilst also living in close quarters. I found it very rewarding that people with no understanding how to sail and who had never been on a sailing yacht before knew by the end of the week the main fundamentals and were performing basic manoeuvres without the aid of help whilst also having an enjoyable holiday. I have also acted as an integral part of the team assisting as a senior skipper within the company helping induct new skippers into their role. What I have found when sailing, if things go wrong, they can go drastically wrong very quickly and I believe I have that composure and confidence to react fast in these situations. A few times I have had to step into many difficult different situations assisting fellow colleagues and other skippers from boats running aground, guest requiring first aid maintenance issues and many more whilst working on the yachts.
In my position working on deck on the workboats I have experienced carrying out engine maintenance and servicing which will also be of value to my employer.
The welfare of my staff/customers/crew is a priority of mine and unquestionably will be the same on for any crew. From working in customer facing roles I appreciate the importance of good communication and know that I have the ability to communicate well with colleagues, students and business partners on different levels to maintain a successful working relationship and positive team environment. Since working in a managerial role from managing a team of 20 staff members, I regularly have to rely on my communication and organisational skills to ensure the smooth efficient operation of my place of work.
Should I be considered, I would welcome the opportunity to continue my own life- long learning representing my chosen boat/crew. With my previous and current experience I believe I would make a valuable contribution to the desired post ensuring the future development of the crew so that the new or existing customer experience a personable and positive life-long memories with the crew.
I very much look forward to hearing from you soon.
Kindest Regards,
Jamie
