Experienced crew seeking position aboard vessel for crossings, deliveries, charters, etc.
I'm seeking a deckhand, competent crew or cooking position on a private or charter sailing yacht, where I can utilize my previous experience in boating, customer service and hospitality.
A little bit about me, I'm Paula, Argentinian citizen, who has lived in Europe for over 10 years. I've been living and sailing in a 31 ft boat between South Africa and South America for the last year. My yachting career has been a quick and intense learning experience, including in some of the most challenging waters in the world (Cape Town and Tierra del Fuego in the southern Atlantic Ocean). I have experience on and below deck. I'm able to be on the helm, do night watches, trim the sails, in addition to being able to cook, clean and provision the boat for trips and charters.
On January 2020, I was selected for work on a United States flag 44 ft ketch to join what would be the last part of the Captain's circumnavigation. We departed Cape Town towards Namibia, St Elena and after the Atlantic crossing we arrived to Joao Pessoa, in northern Brazil.
From Brazil, I started a second position on board a 31 ft steel boat to head to the very tip of South America, which was almost one year due to border closures etc., but afforded a slower pace through the entire Brazilian coast, into Argentina, and through the difficult navigations of Patagonia and onto Tierra del Fuego. This High Latitude sailing gave me experience navigating in strong currents, and in extreme weather conditions and tides.
My experience has been varied and exceptionally well suited for yachting industry. Having left Argentina in 2011, I had lived in different places around Europe for a decade. In Sicily, I worked as a tour guide in the Aeolian Islands, touring around the archipelago in a motor yacht with a group of 25 tourists under my care every week. My tours consisted of me communicating in Italian, Spanish and English, and required explaining the history and importance of the area, and of course all the while spinning the tales in a most entertaining way!
The last few years in Barcelona I worked on my own project, a Cultural and Gastronomic Association named Porta Roja. I was in charge of holding tight schedules of cultural events combined with food, inviting chefs from different places and countries. I would cook and cater a regular menu every day and occasionally catering for large groups, and had the great pleasure of cooking alongside the invited chefs once weekly, which gave my cooking experience a huge boost.
I can say that I have more than 365 night watches in ocean passage, including coastal sailing, and also in the cold and unpredictable South Atlantic Ocean. Cooking, organizing, cleaning and maintenance have been some of my jobs in both boats, and when needed I have been instrumental in assisting with projects on the boat heating, varnishing, sanding, sewing sails etc. If you are looking for someone aboard with great attitude, good cooking skills, and willingness to help whatever situation might occur, I am your crew.
Look forward to hearing from you,
