Looking for Passages/Cruising -Transoceanic or Around & About. The people aboard matter, sharing hopes and life stories.
Hi -. I'm interested in finding a position as a Competent Crew, Racing, 1st Mate or Delivery Crew. I'm looking forward to meeting some new people! I have sailing experience since my early teens, starting with my father (who grew up sailing) taking our family on three multi-week bareboat charters through the islands, then teaching me how to race (being his crew in club, state and national regattas) while also allowing me (stupidly?) to take the boat out with friends during high school and college, sometimes crazing reefs and grounding on sandbars, I must admit, followed by a transpacific crossing, five different bareboat charters on 40-55 foot boats, acting as first mate and captain, a transatlantic professional delivery (as paid first mate) from Ibiza, Spain, via the Canaries to the States, three months in the Chilean fjords, a Panama-Marquesan crossing and, currently, two months aboard in Polynesia. Semi-retired after decades of international business, I am hoping to put together multiple legs of crewing linked to circle the world. But I recognize it is not that precise and it is going to look odd on the map. Bottom line -- I love sailing. I am calm, personable and sensitive and comfortable with all cultures, places and people. I adore night shifts (with close to 200 hours during passages), as they give me a chance to reflect to enjoy the moment and to anticipate what is ahead. And I like long passages, be it a delivery or a meandering about, sometimes without precise timetable or direction. My best to all. Jacques
