As a captain my duty was to take care of boat, train gueats to act as my deckhands, plan route, weather analysys, customer menagment, organising activities. As a crew my duties were to take day/night watches, (I have experienced many night crossings, port navigation and entry), set, reef and trim sails, radar and radio operating, navigation, assist engineer and carpenter, fibreglass repairs, steering, operate moorings, cleaning, setting table, serving guests. I've been climbing masts, diving under the hulls and into engine chambers. I am not afraid of bad weather but I know it is more important to plan and avoid it.

My other interests are: music, I play drums and piano, analog and digital photography (strong edit skills - Lightroom) (https://www.behance.net/marekwilk), videography (camera operator and basic edit - Premiere Pro). I also did visuals (VJ) and I am a rollerblader:)

show hide Q&A

Q&A

10

Q: What’s your favourite boating experience? Night starry sky, being offshore and see nothing but sea around, sunrises and sunsets, visiting new places and meet new cultures.

Q: What’s your worst boating experience? Volvo Penta MD17 Diesel engine;P

Q: How long have you been boating and what made you start? I've started on lakes when I was 14 or 16. Then suddenly in 2018 it happened for me to join 2000+ miles delivery and that's how it started. Now I need at least few moths on seas to stay sane;)

Q: What are your sailing ambitions? What’s the next challenge? One day I want to do the Big Circle with Cape Horn and Cape of Good Hope. If it goes bad it would take 2-3 years, if it goes good it would take 20+ years;)

Q: Where’s your favourite boating destination? Where water is warm and drinks are cold.

Q: What is your favourite boat and why? I love to sail on Ketch type boats because they are easy to balance with front (Stay, Genoa) and Mizzen sail.

Q: What is the longest passage you’ve completed without stops? It was 17 days from Tenerife to Guadelupe on 54 foot catamaran.

Q: What’s your funniest experience? It was pretty funny when flying fish flew to crewmate cabin;P

Q: What is it about being on the water that makes you tick? It's pure essence, you need to do what is necessary to survive and there is no "it can't be done" on the sea. Great test for character and social competences.

Q: Gin and Tonic in a beautiful anchorage or trimming the sails to get an extra half knot? I am not a racer;)

  • Letter of reference. To whom it might concern. Marek Wilk joined s/y Nellas, a 17 meter Bali 5.4 catamaran, on November 18, 2021 as a watch officer during yacht delivery from Palma de Mallorca to Saint-Martin. We started our cruise after preparations that included checking all systems, getting ready sails and deck, tidying engine room, checking navigation instruments connections, mast climbing and sorting halyards and provisioning. During the cruise we covered 4266.5 miles (611.5 hours, 517 under sails). We were sailing in fog (using horn signals and AIS), winds up to 45 knots and seas level up to 5. Marek performed very well as day and night navigation watch officer and was very helpful with repairs at sea like removing Diesel (Sea) Bug. He was operating the ship's dinghy and VHF. Marek was responsible for filling in the Ship's Log Book. He also participated in kitchen watches. Sailing with Marek onboard as watch officer was safe and fun, he remained reliable in deteriorating weather conditions, was inventive, quick and precise. He is very capable and eager to learn more about sailing. However he stays professional as situation requests, he is easy going and a nice person. I would recommend Marek Wilk to any Captain and I am sure he will add great value to any crew. Yacht Captain Tomasz Piotrowski KAPITAN JACHTOWY Patent nr 737 Tomasz Piotrowski

  • Letter of reference. To whom it may concern. Marek Wilk joined s/y Leeloo, 37 foot slup on July of 2018. The cruise begun in Plymouth, UK and ended in Las Palmas, Spain. He was part of 3 person crew and performed very well during difficulties like malfunction of steering gear and remained reliable on rough waters of Biscay Bay. Marek is a good helmsman, navigator and day/night watch keeper. His other duties was to set and read radar, communicate via radio, read AIS as well as setting, trimming and reefing sails, operate with moorings. Marek is a trustworthy sailor and I would recommend him to any captain/owner, he is also very outgoing person easy to get along with. Jakub Zamyślewski Email: sailingclub.bydgoszcz@gmail.com

  • To whom it may concern. This is to certify that Marek Wilk joined the yacht Orchestra, a 20 meter Jongert ketch on April 21 2022 as first officer (mate). From that date to 1st of June he was involved in familiarisation of the yacht systems, preparing her for a cruise from our winter port Vilamoura Portugal, to our summer port, Combarro in Galicia. The preparation covered everything including sails, deck prep, engine room, navigation instrumentation, reorganising the ships storage plan, mast climbing to sort halyards etc. During this time he completed a SSI open water diving course successfully. This proved to be very useful on at least one occasion when we had fouled a redundant chain from a disused mussel raft. During the cruise we covered 1281 miles (160 hours), 4 overnights as watch leader, multiple anchoring and dockings, sailing in fog using AIS and Radar, winds up to 35 knots and seas up to 3.5 mtrs. He was able and willing to prep, cook and present food at sea. He was in charge of launching the ships RIB, transporting guests to and from beach landings and islands. He also used the ships VHF to communicat with marinas etc. Marek is a fine capable young sailor. He intends making a career at sea. He shared quarters with his fellow crew and they worked very well as a team. He was well liked by guests and all involved with our 2022 cruise. I would be happy to have Marek with us again and have no hesitation in recommending to any prospective yacht captain or owner. I wish him well with his future career.
