Watch: The Return of Godspeed
Ahoy! I’m David – Your Next Crew Member! ?
Hi, I'm a sailor from Dallas, TX, working on building miles and offshore sailing experience.
A Bit About Me:
I am an Army Veteran who has worked in marketing for the past 15 years. In 2025, I left my corporate career to start my own photography company, Roam and Focus Photography (@roamandfocus) and begin building the miles and experience I need for a captain's license and eventually, RYA Yachtmaster certifications.
My Background:
• Certifications: I hold ASA 101 and 103 certifications.
Experience:
• I have been sailing for five years and have sailed about 4,600 offshore miles. I own a Catalina 25 that I sail and maintain locally here in Dallas. I also crew regularly for local club events.
Previous Passage Experience:
• January 2026 – Leopard 45 Catamaran Delivery | Tortola, BVI to Placencia, Belize (Approx. 1,440 NM)
I crewed aboard a new Leopard 45 sailing catamaran on a 1,600-nautical-mile offshore delivery from Tortola, British Virgin Islands, to Placencia, Belize. Served as one of only two crew members (skipper and crew), standing rotating three-hour watches throughout the passage. Responsibilities included day and night watchkeeping, maintaining a safe navigational lookout, monitoring AIS and vessel systems, helming, assisting with sail handling and vessel operations, provisioning, meal preparation, cleaning, and general vessel maintenance while underway.
• June 2025 – Beneteau 423 Delivery | Dominican Republic to Trinidad (Approx. 900 NM)
I crewed aboard a Beneteau 423 on an approximately 900-nautical-mile offshore delivery from the Dominican Republic to Trinidad, with a fuel stop in St. Croix. Served as crew on a multi-day offshore passage, standing rotating day and night watches while maintaining a safe navigational lookout and monitoring vessel systems and surrounding traffic. Assisted with helming, sail handling, docking, provisioning, meal preparation, cleaning, and routine vessel maintenance to support the safe and efficient completion of the passage.
• January 2025 – Nautor Swan 51 "Godspeed" Delivery | Norfolk, Virginia to Galveston, Texas (Approx. 1,900 NM)
I crewed aboard the 51-foot Nautor Swan Godspeed on an approximately 1,900-nautical-mile offshore delivery from Norfolk, Virginia, to Galveston, Texas. Stood rotating day and night watches while hand-steering the vessel throughout the entire passage, maintaining a safe navigational lookout, monitoring vessel systems, and assisting with sail handling and general vessel operations. The voyage included heavy-weather sailing with sustained winds exceeding 55 knots and seas over 20 feet while rounding Cape Hatteras, followed by subfreezing temperatures and snow off the North Carolina coast. The final Gulf of Mexico leg featured light-air sailing under an asymmetrical spinnaker for much of the passage.
• 2023 – Lagoon 450 Catamaran Delivery | Nassau, Bahamas to Bradenton, Florida (454 NM)
I crewed aboard a Lagoon 450 catamaran on a four-day, 454-nautical-mile offshore passage from Nassau, Bahamas, to Bradenton, Florida. Stood rotating day and night watches, maintaining a safe navigational lookout while monitoring vessel systems and surrounding traffic. Assisted with helming, sail handling, docking, provisioning, meal preparation, cleaning, and routine vessel operations throughout the passage.
• Other Skills: I have hands-on experience rebuilding engines (both forced and naturally aspirated) and I’m learning more each day about working with diesel engines. I also have some experience in general maintenance and boat upkeep, electrical wiring, soldering, and plumbing.
• Interests: Photography, travelling, reading, music, karaoke, skydiving, and surfing.
