Portuguese skipper, 48, available from February 2027, worldwide with no regional restriction. Until then I am completing the FOR-MAR professional seafarer course in Sesimbra (STCW A-II/4 and A-II/5), so I am registering now for spring deliveries and the 2027 season.
Two full charter seasons in command of a 14 m Lagoon 470 sailing catamaran out of Sesimbra on the Portuguese Atlantic coast - passage planning, weather, anchoring and berthing in Atlantic swell and tide, guest briefings and safety drills, and every engine check, rig inspection and end-of-season job in between. Before that, a season as deckhand aboard a privately owned Catana 470 in Indonesia: inter-island passages, night watches, remote anchorages and reef approaches in poorly charted water, with no shoreside support.
Qualifications: Portuguese Ocean Skipper (Patrao de Alto Mar), no length, power or area limit. STCW Basic Safety valid to March 2031. Portuguese seafarer medical, fit for deck service without restriction, valid to February 2028 - Portugal is in Annex 1 of MCA MSN 1815, so it is accepted as ENG1 equivalent on UK-flagged vessels. VHF Radiotelephonist Class A. EU passport, no visible tattoos, non-smoker.
Behind the boats, close to thirty years of professional work on the water - competition swimmer and water polo player, swimming coach, and eleven years running a surf academy where I hired and trained the coaches and ran the finances.
I am looking for mate, skipper, delivery and ocean passage work, and I am building qualifying miles towards RYA Yachtmaster Offshore. Straight with you about where I am: approx. 2,000 nm of sea time, not a signed logbook behind it - logbook kept since 2026. Portuguese and English fluent, Spanish intermediate, French basic.
