Professional & Versatile Crew | Media Researcher & Documentary Maker | Multi-Trip Availability (Nov–Mar) & UK Solent
Hello! I am an experienced, high-functioning, and organised crew member looking for my next sailing adventure. I completed my Competent Crew certificate in Grenada in 2023, having first fallen in love with sailing in Dubai in the 1990s.
My practical maritime experience spans both intensive commercial event hosting and deep-water passage making:
• UK Coastal & Event Hosting (2025–2026): I have spent two seasons working commercially as a host and crew member aboard a Virgin Media Experience Vessel (Jeanneau 53i) out of Lymington Marina in The Solent. This includes an intensive schedule in 2025, plus continued commercial sailing days this summer, bringing my total Solent coastal experience to 1,622 nautical miles (balanced alongside my part-time doctoral studies).
• Ocean Passage (Winter 2025): I logged 444 nautical miles on a 1994 Norfolk-built ocean-faring Oyster, undertaking a challenging multi-island Caribbean passage from Trinidad up to Antigua.
Alongside my maritime pursuits, I am a changemaker (Queen's Award 2016, London School of Social Entrepreneurs 2020), qualified nanny with 30 years’ experience, cultural arts professional (Masters with Distinction 2019), and arts educator.
Media Project & Vessel Fit
As part of my part-time remote doctorate in creative media education, I am producing a documentary film focusing on the benefits of sail training for adults in recovery. I am looking for a professional arrangement where I can embed with a crew to capture footage and stress-test media equipment in authentic adventure and outdoor environments.
Because I utilise specialised camera gear, I require a steadier platform for filming than a standard sloop, and manage my spinal health, I am specifically seeking opportunities on catamarans this season. Their stability and minimal heel provide the ideal environment for my media work and physical well-being while allowing me to contribute effectively to the vessel.
Availability & Schedule
• Winter Escape (November – March): I am available to escape the UK winter, build nautical miles, and catch fair winds and sunshine in far-flung places.
• UK Season (April – September): I am also seeking European sailing opportunities in Croatia, the Greek Islands from April 2027 and in the summer months closer to home in the UK Solent annually, sailing out of Lymington Marina.
Logistical, Travel & Technical Requirements
• Passports & Work Rights: I hold both English and Irish passports, granting me full freedom of movement and the legal right to work anywhere in Europe.
• Connectivity: Because of my remote doctoral studies, I must attend a weekly online seminar on my laptop, meaning access to Starlink or an equivalent reliable marine internet connection is essential whilst outside the UK.
• Travel & Itineraries: My maximum time away from the UK is 27 days per trip. I require confirmed arrival-and-departure airports with a clear passage plan so I can book return flights.
• Preferences: For safety reasons, I look for a crew size of more than two people on board, and I explicitly avoid extreme remote situations like multi-week ocean crossings, preferring coastal or island-hopping itineraries. I love all food and have no special dietary requirements.
Financial Transparency, Insurance & Professional Agreement
I believe in a transparent, upfront value exchange with no unexpected costs:
• Expenses: I am happy to cover my own flights to and from the vessel and contribute to shared food expenses.
• Invoicing & Currency: Operating as a freelancer, any paid engagements within Europe / USA would be structured professionally, including invoicing in Euros / Dollars where applicable.
• Insurance: I carry appropriate travel and public liability insurance. If a position involves formal employment rather than voluntary crewing, public liability insurance must be in place of my employer.
• Additional Services: Any specialised professional services—such as childcare—are outside the scope of standard crewing and would be subject to a separate professional agreement and compensation.
• Written Agreement: To ensure total clarity, I require a written agreement outlining costs, compensation, expectations, and the passage plan before committing.
Safety, Lifestyle & Boundaries
• Vetting: Mutual trust and safety are paramount. I am happy to provide a formal Police Clearance / Certificate of Good Conduct and professional references, and I expect a transparent approach and mutual references in return.
• Clean Living: I maintain a strictly clean-living lifestyle (no drugs or alcohol) and require the same from my crewmates and Skipper.
• Professional Boundaries: I value a simple, honest life in nature with like-minded individuals. To be entirely transparent, I am strictly looking for a professional crew arrangement.
