Crew, Skipper, skill building, mile building or voluntary position.
Hi!
Does anyone need a sailing crew member in and around Scotlands Clyde / west coast area?
I hold
Competent crew cert.
Dayskipper theory cert.
Dayskipper pactical licence.
Coastal Skipper theory cert.
Coastal Skipper practical licence.
VHF licence.
I know its all-weather dependent but if it’s sunny, smooth and breezy then great, but if its wet, rough and blowy then I’ll swap the glasses for contact lenses and happily head out too
I’m 54 years old, live in Ayr and I’d love to have the opportunity to sail with anyone who needs crew in and around the Clyde / west coast area.
Having experienced the costs of owning and maintaining a boat myself I can fully relate to the time, money and commitment it takes. I’d be very happy to make a cash contribution for any days that we could tie up to go sailing.
From 2012 to 2016 I co owned a Moody 346 with my friend.
I obtained competent crew certificate, day skipper licence and VHF licence back in 2012. My wife and 3 daughters sailed with me on her all over the Clyde, up a bit of the west coast and to a few of the inner Hebridean Islands. We crossed to Northern Ireland a few times too.
I hadn’t sailed since 2015 but decided to start again this year. I bought online theory courses for day skipper and coastal skipper and worked my way through them. I already got dayskipper in 2012 but thought it would be a good idea to do it again.
In July 2024 I obtained my coastal skipper licence.
I’ve been buying practical training / skills refresher courses with local RYA training organisations in Largs and Inverkip. I wasn’t sure how long it would take me to get to coastal skipper, so I booked as many courses as I could fit into my work shift pattern. I work an 8-day cycle of 2 days on, 2nights on, 4 days off.
So far this year I've done 3 x 5 day courses, 5 x weekend courses and another 3 x 1 day trips on other people's boats.
My wife, eldest daughter and I are going on a Croatia flotilla sailing holiday in October.
I’m keen to keep the momentum up and get out on the water whenever I am off shift.
The paid theory and practical courses have been great for refreshing my memory and for achieving my coastal skipper licence under the guidance of the training organisation instructors.
I joined Crewbay in the hope of finding a way to maintain my sailing exposure, meet other sailing buddies and to keep building and expanding my experience.
Please feel free to drop me a line if you would be interested in taking me on your boat.
Thank you
Jim Hamilton
