Looking to build miles, make friends, buy a sailboat, help / learn build / restoration / maintenance.
Hi all.
I’m looking to build some sailing experience. Would be great to learn all manner of skills (including maintenance and ship upkeep beyond sailing) while contributing to a boat and meeting some nice people along the way.
As I’m in a new 9-5 job (with some flexibility), mostly prefer weekends or weeknights. Otherwise, fairly flexible in terms of timing (including on short notice).
Recently moved (back to) Balmain; just up from the sailing club.
Would be great to:
1. get out overnight (anything from deliveries to cruising) but
2. equally happy to get involved in supporting local crews for some amateur racing / etc. if you’re short-handed in Sydney (where I currently live, centrally), or even
3. if you’re a refurbishing a yacht and could do with an extra set of hands, I’m pretty handy and have lots of my own tools as well.
Over the coming year or so I plan on investing in a boat of mine own… possibly something smaller to get my sea legs… or potentially a more capable, blue water cruiser in the ~40’ region. It’d be great to get some miles / experience under my belt in the meantime, meet some people in the cruising / club communities, etc..
To date I’ve done a little twilight racing (mostly corporate / recreation though, nothing serious – on ~40’-ers in Sydney over the years) and sailing hobie cat 14’ and lasers a little when I was much younger. Oh, and I have my advanced open water (PADI) certification if it helps, and a drivers/motorcycle licence, passport, etc.. I also own two 1-man inflatable kayaks.
I have no dietary requirements, ailments or allergies, am fit, and pretty easy going, but clean + tidy. Don’t mind being social, enjoying a drink on occasion, absorbing all the sailing knowledge, but also fine to entertain myself – studying, reading, what have you.
Cheers,
Arki
