Professional Merchant Mariner Available for Volunteer Sailing – Dual US/Swedish Citizen
Hello, my name is Dylan. I am a Merchant Mariner in the Deck Department. I hold a range of STCW certifications, all compliant with international standards. These include, but are not limited to, Basic Safety Training, Ratings Forming Part of a Navigational Watch (RFPNW), Cargo Operations, Tankerman Assist, Liquefied Gas, Dangerous Liquids, Firefighting, 1st Aid, Lifeboatman, and Water Survival.
While I work professionally aboard merchant vessels, I aspire to purchase a liveaboard sailboat of my own. To expand my hands-on sailing experience, I am seeking opportunities to volunteer as crew aboard liveaboard sailboats. So far, I have sailed approximately 1700 nautical miles recreationally on live aboard sailboats: 35 days in the Caribbean aboard a 1984 Beneteau Idylle 38, and 70 days in the Mediterranean aboard a 2023 Beneteau Oceanis 51. For more details, please see the Maritime Experience section of my profile and captain feedback provided on my profile.
I understand that crewing on a sailing vessel is not a free vacation. I am a committed and hard-working crew member who takes my responsibilities seriously. I am very organized (I am a non-smoker but don’t mind if others aboard smoke) and have experience standing watch, including solo overnight, steering under sail and power, mooring and docking, line handling, galley work as a rotating chef, cleaning, and general upkeep. I am comfortable with long passages, safety conscious, and always willing to ask for a second opinion when in doubt
In addition, I am a dual US-Swedish citizen and speak Swedish fluently.
If you are looking for a reliable, safety-minded, and enthusiastic crew member eager to contribute in every aspect of life aboard, I would be honored to join your voyage.
Fair winds,
Dylan
1400 miles on ⛵️ Julimar
Dylan sailed with us on 'Julimar' from April to June 2025 . 14 miles in Tunesia, Italy and Greece. Great guy to have in board! Well spirited, responsible and always eager to go the extra mile to make things work out smoothly. We had some excellent hikes and excursions on the way , and also enjoyed his rotational chef skills in the galley. Good sailing skills. No issues to have him helm overnight passages by himself. In doubt, he would rather ask for a 2nd opinion than to take unnecessary risks. Hey Dylan, all the best for your next passage and you are always welcome back on ⛵️Julimar! Cheers, Andreas
