Looking for a Crew position crossing the atlantic
Hi everyone!
I’m Simon, 27, Belgian. After three years working in sustainable agriculture, I’m taking six months off to travel around Latin America, and I’d love to start the journey by crossing the Atlantic under sail.
I see this crossing as a project in its own right, not just a way to get somewhere: travelling without flying, taking the time to slow down, learning offshore sailing alongside people I can trust, and sharing good moments on board, whether that’s talking, sailing, cooking or exploring stopovers.
My experience: I sailed a Hobie Cat 16 in Brittany for three years when I was younger, and I’ve got back into sailing over the past two years. I’m planning a few more sailing weekends before departure to sharpen my habits. I don’t have offshore experience yet, but I’m keen to learn properly and I’ll take it seriously.
On board: I want to be a real crew member: watches, manoeuvres, navigation, cooking, cleaning, maintenance. I’m happy to get my hands dirty and help wherever needed. I’ll of course contribute to the boat kitty and shared expenses.
About me: I’m easy-going, sociable, sporty and hands-on. I’m comfortable in groups and in small spaces from co-housing, van trips, bikepacking and trekking. I love cooking and sharing a good meal, and I’m happy to adapt to any diet on board. I’d also love to fish and surf more than Belgium allows! I care about a kind, respectful atmosphere on board, with full respect for the skipper’s authority.

? Destination: ideally Brazil, but anywhere heading west works: Caribbean, Antilles, South America
