Wanted 1 or 2 crew to share north Australian Kimberley cruise. Dampier to Darwin

We are a couple of retired fit mariners both 61, who have spent the last 5 years revamping and rebuilding our 20m motor cruising vessel. "SALTYDOGZ" which is now ready to make its first major voyage since the refit along the north coast of Australia.

We are looking for 1 or 2 experienced or novice sailors to join us on our first leg of our global circumnavigation voyage.

Departing from Point Samson (near Dampier) around early May we will be taking around 8-10 weeks to cruise via Broome and on to explore the beautiful and remote Kimberley coastline, next port of call - Darwin around early/mid July.

You will be required to share in daily chores, watches and where possible assist with maintenance of equipment.

You will have your own private berth with a double bed, (shared 2 shower/toilets) enjoy gourmet food and snacks and have free use of the 2 dingys, 1 jet boat, 3 kayaks, 2 underwater scooters, lots of fishing gear, plus scuba and snorkeling gear.

If you are a novice or even an experienced sea person and should choose, there will be plenty of opportunities to learn and/or gain technical, nautical, engineering and culinary skills.

In return for this we are asking for a contribution of towards the cost of food and fuel. BYO alcohol.

As you are already here, it goes without saying that you obviously have a spirit for adventure and will potentially be the type of person we are looking for. We are not bias on age or gender. But do need you to be level headed, practical, mindful of others, a quick thinker and observant of situations.

We are wise and sensible, but with an added dry sense of humour, it would pay to have a good understanding of the English language less our jokes fall short of their intended light heartedness. This also stands important for clear communications in navigational instructions, especially in times when accurate and quick responses can be vital for safety.

We enjoy good a conversation and love to share stories, knowledge and make new friends. We both come from very interesting backgrounds, are social scholars and have very eclectic passions and hobbies, so bare with us and join in as we try to not to hold the lime light.

When you're tired of our jokes and conversation or just want some privacy there's always plenty of place on board to make your self scare.

"Saltydogz" has 2 double and 1 master king berths, a well equipped galley, as we love cooking and eating this is the spacious hub of our boat. We have a workshop separate from the walk through engine room. The 4th bedroom has been converted in an extra store room. There's a comfortable saloon, 2 heads, an office cubby, an open plan top deck with loungers, furnished with a 7 seater dinning area, an elliptical strider, BBQ and even an inflatable pool when in safe anchorage. As already mentioned; we have 3 dingys, 3 kayaks, 2 underwater scooters. Dive gear and a compressor for tank refils, plus lots of fishing gear. Oh an even a grow room for microgreens!

Please note that whilst we intend on making our passage when weather conditions are calm, some swell can cause seasickness. This is not fun for anybody so please be mindful of this.
We are non smokers, but moderate drinkers. If you do happen to be a smoker this is permitted out on deck only.

If this sounds of interest and you'd like to know how many ? ? you might need please give us ahoy

  • Boat description40 years maritime experience comes from a early start in life as a commercial fisherman and then later as the founder of a marine company with a fleet of tugs and barges, which included such work as assistance in off shore construction, towage, rescue and salvage, dredging and surveying. There is no doubting the skills of Robin our captain. Now retired he has spent the last 5 years rebuilding our private vessel "saltydogz" to a standard that has astounded fellow mariners. Construction, electronics, engineerings and systems have been diligently applied so that we can for all intent and purposes, we can safely navigate in most conditions. We choose to cruise in calm weather, (who doesn't) but when the ocean can often be unpredictable, we like to always feel prepared, not just for our own safety but for other mariners that may be in need of help. We have also taken into account comfort, practicality and durability of this project so that any crew can feel assured of their safety and can enjoy to the best any conditions that can arise at sea.
