Australia - UK Crew Needed
I am testing the waters to see who might be interested in joining me on an adventure from Australia to the UK, departing SE Queensland at the beginning of August 2025. The passage will follow the Queensland Coast to Darwin, across the Indian Ocean via Rodriguez (and possible other island stops) to South Africa, giving 3 months to have vacated the S.Indian Ocean before the cyclone season in November. I haven’t yet determined the exact route beyond there, which could be direct to the Azores (if adverse winds are manageable) or via the Caribbean . I’m planning to make the best passage time where feasible and weather/unforeseen stops permitting, hoping to be in the UK by around August 2026.
My yacht is a very toughly built 38ft aluminium cutter-rigged monohull and has been well maintained and upgraded for such a voyage. She has 3 double cabins, one shower cubicle/head, large galley and large raised deck saloon. She has huge diesel and water tanks, plus water maker and all the necessary navigation and safety gear.
This is a bit about me. I’m a 62 yr old male RYA Ocean Yachtmaster and sailing instructor with around 30,000nm sea miles over 50 years of cruising/delivering/racing in the UK, Med, Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. I have been a delivery skipper and have sailed in such races as the Fastnet, Sydney-Hobart and Darwin-Ambon. Crew and yacht safety and well-being are of paramount importance to me and must be for any crew who come aboard.
I’m looking for one or two male or female crew, easy going and have some offshore experience, preferably at least RYA Coastal Skipper or equivalent. You must be willing to pitch in and lend a hand in all aspects of sailing and keeping the yacht shipshape. Duties will include solo night watches and shared cooking, cleaning, maintenance, fishing and so on. You will have your own cabin. Smoking is permitted on deck.
In terms of costs, all on-board food and consumables to be shared. Each person to pay their own shoreside entertainment costs. Crew to pay travel expenses to/from the yacht and supply your own wet-weather gear, life-jacket/harness and any other personal safety gear you’d like to bring. Crew must obtain their own travel insurance including emergency repatriation costs.
If this sounds interesting I’d love to hear from you. Please send me a few words about yourself, your experience and your motivation to join. The earlier you get in touch, the better for planning and preparation.
I’m happy to answer any questions you may have. Best to email me at andytbray14@gmail.com.
