Searching for a boat where to help out while learning and increasing my mileage
Hi there!
My name is Giada and I’m a 30-yo who’s currently on a career break after finishing my PhD in molecular biology. I’m currently backpacking through SE Asia: I started in Vietnam in May and I’m currently in Malaysia heading towards Indonesia. I will be in Indonesia from the 25th of October and will stay around the Bali-Lombok area until the 10th of November, but after that I was planning on staying in Indonesia and slowly head back towards the Thai peninsula as I’m leaving on the 21st of December from Singapore. I’m pretty flexible with my planning, I decide day by day so I’m up to whatever we (or the winds) feel like. And I love sailing (but also boats in general) so I would love to do whole or part of this route by sea. It’s me and my backpack, so not a lot of stuff.
I have been on boats from since when I was little: I started sailing on laser boats when I was 10 on the Adriatic coast in Italy, thanks to my mum and granddad. It soon became a passion and I kept coming back every year until I had the time. Having mostly lived far from seas, I tried to make the most of my summers, went a couple of times to a sailing school in Caprera, Sardinia (once to improve my laser skills and once for cabin boats). In 2023 I passed my RYA Day skipper practical certificate in Croatia (including the Marine Radio SRC certificate) and also spent a week sailing in Greece from Athens to Ithaca (passing through the Corinth canal which was a wonderful experience). After that I haven’t had a lot of time to go sailing again, so I’m a bit rusty but the knowledge is there, I just need to get the feeling back. I am super eager to learn from more experienced sailors. In the near future I would love to do an ocean crossing, which is one of my big dreams and definitely charter boats on my own after having logged more miles.
