Seeking Sailing Experience
I live aboard and sail full-time, having transitioned from a land-based life to the sea without a traditional sailing background. Together with my husband at that time, I bought a Piewiet 1050 (34 ft) sailing yacht and learned seamanship hands-on through real passages and daily life on board.
After an short handover and training period with the previous owner in Curaçao, we began sailing independently throughout the Caribbean and Central America, including Colombia, Panama and the San Blas Islands.
Since then, I have also crewed on other sailing yachts, sailing from Panama through the San Blas Islands (island hopping), on to Colombia, back to Curaçao, and from there again to Cartagena (actually I'm back in Curaçao). These passages allowed me to gain experience on different boats, with different skippers, and in varying conditions.
My experience includes coastal and offshore sailing, watchkeeping (including night watches), navigation and passage planning, anchoring in various conditions, dinghy handling, and ongoing onboard problem-solving and maintenance. I am used to adapting quickly, staying calm in challenging situations, and learning continuously.
I am realistic about my experience level and value honesty, safety, and good seamanship. While I’m confident and capable on board, I have no interest in overstating my skills. My goal is to keep building solid sea miles with the long-term intention of solo sailing, while contributing reliably and positively as crew.
I’m easygoing, responsible, and respectful of both the boat and the people on it.
