Sailor apprentice looking for voluntary work
Reliable, easy-going crew looking to build sea miles and experience, working towards RYA training and a career as a delivery skipper.
23, Portuguese, based in Lisbon. 290 nautical miles logged, mostly coastal on a monohull.
Qualifications:
Portuguese Coastal Skipper licence (Patrão de Costa, issued by the DGRM, the national maritime authority).
Building sea miles and offshore experience towards future RYA training (Day Skipper and beyond).
Onboard skills:
Helming and sail trim, reefing and sail changes, basic navigation and chartwork, engine checks, line handling and mooring, and cooking for the crew. Keen to build offshore and night-watch experience — eager to learn.
Experience:
Comfortable sailing in winds up to Force 6 in moderate seas, reefing early and handling the boat in a building breeze.
Completed a 250nm coastal cruise over a week, standing night watches as part of a watch system.
Familiar with tidal currents from sailing the Tagus estuary in Lisbon (the bar and harbour entrance) — keen to build more experience in tidal waters.
Sailed mainly around Lisbon, and also the Turkish coast (Marmaris–Bodrum–Marmaris).
Availability:
Free from 23rd August 2026, for passages of 1–2 weeks. Flexible on dates and destination — open to coastal and offshore passages in the Atlantic and Mediterranean.
Valid passport, ready to travel at short notice.
Costs:
Happy to contribute to food and onboard running costs.
