Reliable Beginner Crew for Cruising Adventures
I just turned 41 and have wanted to do a long sailing trip for as long as I can remember. My goal isn't just to check it off my bucket list—I'd really like to become a competent crew member and make sailing a regular part of my life.
I'm completely new to sailing, so I'm looking for skippers who enjoy teaching someone who's genuinely excited to learn. I'm a good listener, I follow instructions well, and I'm happy to help however I can. Cooking, cleaning, provisioning, maintenance, standing watch once I've learned the ropes—I'm not looking to be a passenger. I want to earn my place aboard.
By day, I work in healthcare. My schedule is fairly flexible because I manage my own calendar. Depending on the trip, I can either take time off completely or, on a slower cruising itinerary, set aside a few hours each week for telehealth appointments and administrative work. I'd always rather be upfront about expectations so everyone knows what to expect before leaving the dock.
I'm easygoing by nature and practice Zen Buddhism, which has taught me to slow down, stay present, and keep a calm perspective. I think those qualities translate well to life on a boat. I'm dependable, respectful, comfortable taking direction, and not someone who brings drama. I'm also pretty low-maintenance and self-sufficient.
I have a deep love for the ocean and for being outside. Watching the sunrise from the cockpit, swimming in a quiet anchorage, or lying on deck under a sky full of stars sounds like just about the perfect day to me. I'm an excellent swimmer and always happy to pitch in wherever I'm needed.
I'm single, don't have kids, and have enough flexibility to travel several times a year. My hope is to build lasting friendships within the sailing community, keep learning, and become someone a skipper would be happy to invite back. Caribbean cruising and island hopping are at the top of my list, but I'm open to adventures anywhere with good people and a shared appreciation for life at sea.
