EXPERIENCE
15,000+ nm including an Atlantic crossing. Currently circumnavigating aboard my
own 52 ft monohull — I have been living aboard full time with my family, which
means daily systems work, weather routing and anchoring in unfamiliar ground
rather than seasonal sailing.
Charter skipper seasons in Croatia and Greece (Saronic Gulf and Ionian).
Further sailing grounds: Slovenia,
Italy, France, the Canary Islands, the Caribbean, Sweden and the Swedish
archipelago, and the German North Sea and Baltic — tidal, skerry and Mediterranean waters alike.
Yachts handled, 30–70 ft:
Production and charter — Beneteau Oceanis 51.1, Jeanneau Sun Odyssey, Bavaria
Cruiser range, Elan, Lagoon and Bali catamarans and Neel Trimarans.
Bluewater and performance — Hallberg-Rassy, Nautor's Swan, Najad, X-Yachts,
Grand Soleil, Van de Stadt designs. A privately owned Swan or Hallberg-Rassy
is run differently from a charter boat, and I sail them accordingly.
OFFSHORE
Atlantic crossing plus repeated ocean and multi-day passages. Comfortable with
watch systems, night navigation, GRIB and satellite weather routing, heavy
weather tactics and running a self-sufficient vessel — power management,
watermaker, satellite comms — with no support within reach.
CERTIFICATION — German national certificates of competence (DSV / DMYV)
- Sportküstenschifferschein (SKS) — German Coastal Skipper Certificate of
Competence. Valid for sail and motor yachts in coastal waters up to 12 nm
offshore, and the certificate German law requires to skipper a commercially
operated yacht within that zone. Requires 300 logged nm and a separate theory
and practical examination. Issued including the ICC (International Certificate
of Competence, UNECE Resolution 40) and therefore internationally recognised.
- Sportbootführerschein See (SBF See) — German National Certificate of
Competence for pleasure craft in coastal waters; prerequisite for the SKS.
- Sportbootführerschein Binnen (SBF Binnen) — German National Certificate of
Competence for inland waters, sail and power.
- SRC — Short Range Certificate, GMDSS VHF/DSC radio operator (ITU recognised).
- Certificate of competence for the use of pyrotechnic distress signals.
ON BOARD
Calm ship, thorough safety briefing, no ego sailing. I hand over a boat in the
condition I received it and I write an honest handover report. Comfortable with
inexperienced crew and happy to teach.
