Developing Sailor | Keen Crew | Coastal Cruising & Mile Building
Hi! I'm an Australian based in Brisbane, currently developing my sailing skills with the long-term ambition of owning and skippering my own cruising catamaran.
My sailing journey began with an introductory yacht sailing course through Southern Cross, where I gained hands-on experience operating winches, trimming the jib, assisting with reefing the mainsail, handling mooring lines, and docking.
I've since completed 12 recreational sailing sessions aboard a Tasar dinghy on Moreton Bay, accumulating approximately 24+ hours on the water, in addition to my initial yacht training.
During these sessions, I've gained confidence at the helm, practised tacking and sail handling, and made tactical decisions regarding course, wind conditions, marine traffic, and when to return to shore, all under the guidance of an experienced sailor.
I'm physically active, nimble around a boat, and genuinely enjoy getting involved rather than simply being along for the ride!
I'm particularly interested in developing my coastal navigation, passage planning, watchkeeping, weather interpretation, and boat maintenance skills. I'm also keen to experience longer passages and gain a better understanding of life aboard a cruising yacht.
**What I'm looking for:**
Initially, day sails, weekend trips, and opportunities to crew with experienced sailors around Queensland and the Australian east coast.
I'm planning to relocate to the UK in 2027 and would love to join an Australian coastal passage before departing, potentially as part of my journey towards Europe. Once based in the UK, I intend to continue building my sailing experience through coastal cruising, mile building, and further training.
I'm happy to contribute towards reasonable shared expenses, assist with everyday boat duties, and learn from experienced skippers. I'm particularly keen to be an active, useful member of the crew.
Ultimately, I'd love to own a Wharram Tiki 26 and explore the Mediterranean under sail.
I'm still learning, but I'm enthusiastic, practical, safety-conscious, and always willing to give things a go! I also appreciate a good dad joke and an absolutely terrible pun. ?
Fair winds!
