Engineer/Sailor/Diver drug/smoke-free, in Mediterranean, ready for fun sails, delivery to Caribbean, short term projects
Greetings, currently looking for long distance delivery, short term opportunities, and leisure excursions on boats with a positive atmosphere. I am a mechanically oriented electrical & electronics engineer with a career dedicated to marine, aerospace, and biomedical. Semi-professional photographer & videographer. FAA registered drone pilot. Can troubleshoot and often fix a diverse variety of issues that may arise on a boat.
Notable sailings included taking a cigar boat non-stop from Florida to Bahamas, taking all helm night shifts of a 56' ketch from Washington to California, working on dive charters in Turkey, sailing around the Mediterranean and Aegean seas, island hopping around Fiji and San Juans, crewing in sailing races in the Whitsundays and Columbia River, and double-handing a Caliber LRC around Hawaiian islands.
Have been described as dependable, charismatic, and fun to be around. Received recognitions for staying calm in emergencies and foul weather. Competent on power and sail boats with a personal affinity towards yachts in the 44’-54' range.
Received my first CoC (Certificate of Proficiency for Amateur Seaman) in 1993 for 20m (65 ft) & 50 GRT. Renewed it with a lifetime ICC (International Certificate of Competence) in 2007. PADI Divemaster since 1994. Had NAUI Instructor cert at one time, however no longer maintain it. Multiple First-Aid/CPR/AED certifications.
Lifelong passion for being on or under water. Open minded towards alternative lifestyles and diverse religious & political views. Have traveled in 21 countries, blended in well with the locals, and honed skills to rapidly adapt to customs and local regulations.
Would like to earn my Yachtmaster Offshore someday and therefore I am particularly interested in projects that have an instructor on board who can support this goal.
Love sharing my knowledge. Taught swimming, waterpolo, diving, rock climbing, GPS, boating, and wilderness navigation & survival to individuals and teams.
In addition to my individual engineering contributions, a majority of my career involved technical leadership and management. Very good at keeping progress on track and within budget. Have extensive experience in troubleshooting & repairing mechanical, electrical, electronic and hydraulic components on outboards, L-drives, cars, trucks, and motorcycles. Expert in sealants and adhesives used in applications where pressure, sand, salt fog and temperature parameters determine reliability. Competent in arc and MIG welding. Expert in connectors and troubleshooting circuits cards down to component level. IPC Certified in high reliability soldering strategies as well as wire terminations and cable harness routing.
I am currently in Turkey and available for deliveries, mile building, yacht management, and leisurely outings. In line to get my Covid vaccination, and will be available globally real soon.
