I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park in December 2016, with a degree in Biology, and hope to return to school to obtain a graduate degree in Marine Science. In the Summer of 2015, I was a crew member of an 88ft. sail training vessel based in the British Virgin Islands, and traveling to various islands in the Caribbean, including St. Kitts, Dominica, Antigua, and St. Barths, among others. During this time, we had numerous offshore and night passages where I was a member of a 3 man watch team. Duties included performing engine and deck checks, trimming sails, and hand-steering. Additionally, I gained the IYT Competent Crew certification, as well as the IYT Navigation Master certification. Starting in May 2016, I worked as an instructor for the Annapolis Sailing School in Annapolis, MD, teaching American Sailing Association certification courses aboard 24 ft. keelboats, as well as 37 ft. cruising vessels. I also operated these cruising vessels for evening and day charters throughout the waters of the Chesapeake Bay. From May 2017-August 2017, I lived aboard 50 ft. Sunsail/Moorings charter vessels in the British Virgin Islands, acting as a mate and sailing instructor for an immersion-based summer camp for teenagers. Based in West End, Tortola, we would embark upon three-week long cruises throughout the BVI while living alongside students, and providing sailing instruction on these vessels. During this time, I gained ample experience with boat maintenance, anchoring/mooring, and boat handling. Currently, I am based in Annapolis, MD, again working for the Annapolis Sailing School.
