Competent. Reliable. Experienced. Ready-to-Go
Thanks for considering me as crew aboard your boat. I have sailed my own Island Packet 350 for the last 7 years in the Caribbean, Bahamas and US East Coast. I'm a good mechanic and problem-solver; I've done most repairs at one time or another on our boat, as any cruiser must. I'm also a pretty good cook! I'm married, 57 years old with two grown kids. I'm semi-retired from a career in journalism and marketing, which is why I have the means and flexibility to pick up and leave on short notice. I pay my own expenses. I'm looking to sail new waters, on different boats, with new people. As a cruiser myself, I've been on both sides of Crewbay, so I understand how important it is to have reliable, experienced, neat and respectful crew for extended passages to break up those grueling watch rotations.

To anyone considering Michael Hetzer as crew and/or skipper please accept this as my strongest recommendation. I have sailed with Michael many times including two off shore passages between Little River, SC and Abaco, Bahamas. Michael is an extremely knowledgeable, competent sailor in all areas. Equally important, Michael is just a good guy to crew with. He is easy to get along with and handles stressful situations calmly. I would not hesitate to crew with (or for) Michael.

I have known Mike Hetzer for 15+ years and have sailed with him for at least 10 years on a variety of different boats. Mike’s navigation skills are top notch, I’ve watched him prepare for both weekend getaways and for months long cruises and always make sure that he understands the route and the weather and the thousand other variables needed to have a safe voyage. I’ve sailed with him offshore, worked along side him on other boats, and as crew on his own boat. I have never doubted his decisions. He has never lost his temper, has never yelled at crew members, or disrespected anyone. That said Mike also doesn’t mind answering any questions a person might have about why or how things need to happen. I would sail with Mike any time and any where.

To Whom it may concern, I, Ben Edkins, past Commodore of the Long Bay Sailing Association have had the pleasure of sailing with Michael Hetzer on many occasions, both as crew and as Captain. 1). He is a great guy to hang out with and gets along easily with others. 2) His sailing skills and knowledge of the sport are excellent. 3). Michaels judgement is exceptional. His attitude is consistently bright and cheery. By sailing with Michael, I have made a lifelong dear friend. I give him my absolute highest recommendation as crew or as Captain.
