Looking for a Competent Crew, Friendship, Racing or Marine mechanic position

On a sailing level, I am decent at sailing, navigating, journey planning and chart plotting, good at repairs and love to cook even in high seas. Well... as high as they get in the Baltic anyways, which has been my training waters. I take joy in keeping a precise logbook and performing routine inspections.

I am appreciated as a crew, because I never complain, I am proactive and try to absorb as much knowledge as possible from more experienced sailors, and because I like to take physically demanding watches (swells, night-time or cold). I am usually the first on my feet when the dinghy capsizes, in mob situations or during a grounding.

As a skipper, I have seen the limits of my experience during hard weather, making misjudgements, and taking crew too far outside their comfort zones.

As far as certifications, I have the Swedish level 2 coast skipper, which appears to be the equivalent of RYA coastal skipper in terms of pre-qualification and content.

I am well used to what's commonly perceived as high risk activities such as mountaineering, motorcycle or mountain bike racing, extended self planned/sufficient travelling into geographical/climatically inhospitable areas or with social tension. I have grown to appreciate physical and mental endurance. I enjoy actively minimizing risks and the feeling of presence it brings about.

All of the above are my hobbies, but what I really do well is connect: to nature, the moment and fellow friends.

I have long since been interested in pushing my capacities for physical and social flexibility. I am often told by friends that I have the habit of quickly getting close to people, and being the catalyst for strong experiences. I live to deepen new and existing relationships.

Since my recent graduation I work as a mechanical engineer designing cars with the aim to raise the budget necessary for my own sailing adventure next year. It's a frugal city life that provides one stimulating side of the life balance puzzle…Mechanically inclined, my hobbies, education and work have made me proficient working on engines, electrics, metal, wood and composites.

I go from being a mechanical hypochondriac, minutely restoring and preparing to the highest standards motorcycles that have carried me back and forth to the remote mongolian steppes and sand deserts; to resorting to creative in field “ghetto fixing” and riding home the last exhausted pieces of machine. If your tools are rusty I will bring mine.

Last summer, as part of a 3 week sailing trip in the outer Swedish archipelago and Finnish waters, I rescued a freezing man floating by his boat sunk by the ongoing gale. Later that stormy week, I was very near having to be rescued myself when the engine sucked air and the jib tore in a critical moment, endangering my crew and vessel following my borderline decision to take to sea and change storm shelter bay. Thus, I am looking to learn from an experienced skipper so that next year I can guarantee higher safety for my own sailing expedition.

My upcoming sailing trip will have a high emphasis on social adventure and community. If all goes well, I should be able to return the favour in 2021.

I haven't done an application like this before and have probably forgotten to see through details you’re looking out for. If you think we can be compatible and provide value for each other, I would love to have a chat and get to know your values.

Fair winds,
