Looking for a Delivery Crew, 1st Mate or Deckhand position
Hi
I've just joined Crew bay. I'm interested in finding a position as Delivery Crew, 1st Mate, or Deckhand. I'm looking forward to meeting some new and interesting people and exploring many new places -and who personally enjoy singing the occasional sea shanty onboard!
My main aim is to extend my wealth of experience with capable captains, especially in reacting during emergencies. I've learned it's best to have it already as a reflex from wise, seasoned sailors.
Visiting new countries and exciting regions is also a passion, and I've been to 39 during my formative years. Revisiting with a sailor's perspective, in no way lessens the effects, so I'm as keen as to put to sea.
I am an International school teacher from Britain by trade and have just completed the last 3 years in the Middle East. I am of Caribbean descent as you can see from my picture -and all of my family were British-born and bred. My students liken me to a "Peaky Blinder" but please don't let that put you off! :)
Initially, I would like to put to sea wherever possible over the next two years, to build my strengths.
My research has led me to a fairly accessible home base in northeast Tunisia, which is well located for the U.S, Caribbean, the Canaries, Portugal, and other easterly -southern seaports & beyond. I am very open to longer passages further afield if desired.
So my main aim is to participate in all aspects daily onboard and improve my repertoire as high as can be offered to me, as I have passed my IYT Day Skipper, Master Radio- GMDSS, and International Certificate of Competency cards, respectively, and desire NM's- together with the daily practice needed to view myself as "match-fit."
In addition, I hold Diver's licenses up to the Advanced level, including Photography.
I have no diesel nor great electrical/mechanical skills, but I can use saws and other hand equipment and re-connect parts using solder- so there are some areas that I'd appreciate gaining more understanding of in real-time.
In return and on larger yachts, I cook very well a wide variety of international cuisines, and know my mixology and wines to a high degree, should there be a need -or just for variety, as it's good to eat as well as possible on legs-even at 40 degrees tilt!.
I hope to hear of your intentions to put to sea and look forward to your replies-especially if you have a good sea shanty voice!
Thank you,
Christo
