Experienced & qualified sailor looking for 1st mate or skipper job

Hi there - I'm Wessel! I am a lifelong sailor and waterman, who is in love with the sea and tries to spend as much time on it as possible. Since a young age I've sailed all types of dinghies (e.g. Lasers, RS500), gave sailing lessons to kids in various types of boats, got the windsurfing bug, grew into sailing on and skippering smaller sailing yachts (<35ft) in my teens and traded the windsurfing bug for a continued kitesurfing one after finishing my degree in Ship Design & Production.

Since end of last year I've committed to sailing fulltime, racking up 10.000+ miles over 2 Atlantic crossings (as crew & some shorthanded), obtaining my Yachtmaster Offshore, (commercially) skippering various vessels (monohull & catamaran) and racing.

Having been sailing full time since March 2023 & being a sailor all my life, I know how to run vessel, plan & execute long passages, work with different types of people & boats in different weather conditions, lead team (night) watches or solo watches, execute regular (preventive) boat maintenance & know my way around woodwork, glass/carbon fibre work, electrical systems, plumbing & engines. My experience includes crewing multiple Atlantic crossings, sailng double-handed from the Azores to Portugal and skippering a 45ft catamaran from the Canaries to Portugal in a tight weather window. See CV for more and aways up for a call if you're interested to hear more.

Additionally I've got 1.5 years experience in a professional kitchen, designing menu's for crossings, provisioning & will accept the challenge of recreating your favorite dish.

I'm looking for a paid position as a 1st mate or skipper (or similar) - but as I also simply love sailing - I'm also interested in unpaid racing or something with an adventurous (kitesurfing?) itinerary.

Certificates: RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Sail Commercially Endorsed , RYA Sea Survival, World Sailing Personal Safety, STCW Basic Safety, Medical Certificate are all up to date

You want this guy on your boat!

I had the pleasure of crewing with Wessel on an W-E Atlantic crossing from Miami to the Azores. He is a proactive sailor with a positive outlook, a great sense of humour, and is amazing in the galley! I can strongly recommend Wessel to anyone wanting high-quality and friendly crew on their boat, and I hope to sail with Wessel again in the future.

You wont find a better crew!

Wessel was crewing my boat from Azores to Sicily over a time of roughly a month. Sharing all the work between the two of us. What should I say... I couldn't think of any better crew! You're lucky if he applies to be crew on your boat!
