Round the world - already started 03 / 2023 in the Med

Update 03/2024:
I´m looking for crew from 2024/05/15 to 2024/07/15 starting in Puerto Rico, passing Dominican Republic, Turks and Caicos, Bahamas and ending in Savannah / Georgia

Dear sailor,
Ever since I started sailing more than 50 years ago, I knew that one day I would sail around the world.
After my retirement, this "once" has come. I bought a Beneteau Oceanis 523 in Italy in 2020 and started preparing it for the big voyage. Now it has almost become a new ship in terms of safety, comfort and elegance - paired with the charm of a classic shipbuilding with lots of wood in the interior and a teak deck for even more comfort. A generator, a watermaker, solar power for 700 watts and much more ensure extensive, autonomous long-distance travel suitability.
The start was in spring 2023 from Olbia / Sardinia along the coasts of southern France and Spain, via Gibraltar and Madeira to the Canary Islands. There I will set off with the ARC towards the Caribbean in November.
in spring 2024 I plan to sail from St. Lucia, leaving the Caribbean in June to head towards Florida and New York, possible also Maine and Halifax. Back to the Caribbean in October 2024 to cross the Panama Channel and spend 2025 in Galapagos and French Polynesia. The tour will end 2027 / 2028 with finishing the world cirumnavigation around Cape of Good Hope back to the Caribbean.
I'm open to any kind of sailors, that want to share the experience of coastal sailing, ocean crossing and the pleasure of sailing.
When it comes to taking friends, family and other guests with me, the ship offers comfortable space for another four to five people. I don't do it for the money, but because I like to have people around me and to share my joy with them.
Talking about the money: For me as the owner and skipper it's common, that everyone - including me - pays it's own expenses and contributes to the costs of the trip (fuel, harbour fees, entrance fees,, ...). There also will be some small fee for the usage of the boat and having an experienced skipper. This fee depends on the type of the trip, your contribution to sailing and we talk about it individually.
A little about me: I've just turned 64, in good physical condition, love good food and wine, like music. I like to talk and discuss with interesting people, pass on my knowledge or just hang out and enjoy the quiet time.
Above all, I want to have a good time, live without drama, be able to plan and travel from day to day, get to know new people and cultures, be able to get involved somewhere useful and experience a lot more.
In terms of sailing I´m a little bit old fashioned: I like paper charts and do the navigation with them, I have a sextant on board, I can get the grib-files for the weather forcast and communication through a SSB-radio and there is also a NAVTEX installed. Of course there are two Raymarine plotters and Iridium on board too. Lately I also installed a Starlink system.
You also can track Time AUT on polarsteps: polarsteps.com/ThomasHackspiel
If you want to know more about me, please contact me. There is still a lot to tell!
Thomas

  • Boat descriptionI planned to do a world circumnavigation since I started sailing with 9. After retiring 2021 I bought and refitted my personal “Time AUT“, a Beneteau Oceanis 523 with generator, watermaker, solar panels, dive compressor, new sails and a lot of more equipment for safety, comfort and elegance. In April 2023 I started in Sardegna, visiting South France and Spain and then heading for Gibraltar, Madeira to Las Palmas. We joined the ARC 2023 and then will continue with the barefoot-Route for 5 to 7 years. Concerning security everything necessary for a world circumnavigation is installed plus lots of comfort details, …. For boat performances spinnaker, Blue Water Runner, Code Zero, Gennaker, … (deep in my heart I‘m still a regatta sailor). If you want to join for some legs or a longer "Time AUT" please write me a PM. Thanks, Thomas

I had the most amazing experince with Thomas and Time Aut, sailing the Canarian Islands. Thomas is a very experienced and safe sailor. He holds lots of knoweldge both in sailing and in general, and generously shares it. He’s a very good instructor and keeps calm even in stressful situations. Thomas is always nice and polite, making his crew feel comfortable and is also an interesting person to be around. The boat is beautiful, well equipped, clean and very well maintained.
