Atlantic Highlands to MD

Hoping to depart 2 October. High speed ferry goes from NYC to this marina. We originated the trip in Northport, NY.

Short period waves due to tropical disturbance off coast with small craft advisory has us hold up at local yacht club with free launch service. Our dingy is a 1200# capacity inflatable with new 6hp Tohatsu.

Looking for a crew members to assist in delivery of a Beneteau Oceanis 390 from the Atlantic Highlands to Taylor’s Island, MD.

The current plan is to depart the marina early headed northward ~5nm, then curve around Sandy Hook and head south along the Jersey Shore. We’ll reach Cape May in about 110 nm. traveling through the first night as there are limited good ports along this stretch due to shifting shoal waters. Standard hull speed calculation is 7.74. Sailboat guide states 9.4 knots actual. We’ll get a slip at Cape May for the following night we will rotate watches through that first night.

The third morning we’ll head northerly up the Delaware Bay starting at low tide. The rising tidal current will push us to the D&C Canal. Well stop at Chesapeake City for the third night.

We’ll exit the west side of the D&C and then head south to the destination marina which is slightly south of abeam DC on the east side of the Chesapeake. We may opt to extend the trip another day and stop in around the Annapolis area. Trip in total is approximately 285 nm (4-5 days) Depending upon conditions we may end up motoring or motor sailing some of the way.

I intend to cover the cost for the airport shuttle to BWI from the destination marina. Incoming crew can leave NY and take the high speed ferry. Slip fees and fuel are my responsibility.

Crew will need to assist with watches and pitch in onboard with housekeeping and meals. I am a reasonable cook, but glad to have help. I’ll cover costs underway. Meals ashore are each person’s responsibility. I intend to cover the return airport shuttle cost to BWI from the destination marina. The rest is negotiable.

Boat has two private cabins and settees. There is a local airport shuttle to take us to BWI. There is flexibility in our itinerary but this is essentially a delivery with the goal of first being safe and an important second priority to enjoy the trip. We can press through if there is a desire to do so and make the trip in 2.5 days if time is limited or stretch it out a bit if that is desired.

Thank you.

I really enjoyed this adventure. I helped David get his sailboat through New York City and across the bay to Atlantic Highlands. David is a good communicator and easy to work with.
