Looking for a Voluntary work, Novice Crew, Mile building or Friendship position
Canadian | Available mid-November 2026 | Up to 3 weeks | Worldwide
Hello captains, sailors, and fellow adventurers!
I'm a 48-year-old Canadian from beautiful British Columbia, with Eastern European roots, looking for an opportunity to join a sailing yacht, experience life at sea, and learn the art of sailing from an experienced skipper.
Full disclosure: I'm a complete beginner! I've only spent one night aboard a small sailboat. But what I lack in sailing experience, I hope to make up for with practical skills, hard work, a positive attitude, and a genuine eagerness to learn!
WHAT I CAN BRING ABOARD:
Mechanical & technical skills: Over 20 years in long-haul trucking and experience running my own transportation business. Comfortable working on engines, mechanical equipment, troubleshooting, and repairs.
Jack of many trades: Extensive hands-on experience in construction, renovations, plumbing, electrical work, and general maintenance. I enjoy fixing things and solving problems!
Scuba diving: I enjoy exploring the underwater world and would love to discover new diving destinations along the way.
Fishing: Love fishing, and there's nothing quite like catching your own dinner!
Cooking: I genuinely enjoy cooking and would be happy to contribute in the galley. Freshly caught fish on the menu? Even better!
Languages & culture: Canadian with Eastern European heritage, fluent in English and Russian, and currently learning Spanish. I enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds, sharing stories, and exploring new cultures.
Hardworking & resourceful: Physically capable, adaptable, practical, and happy to pitch in with whatever needs doing. No ego, no expectations of luxury, and definitely not afraid to get my hands dirty!
⛵ WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR:
I'm hoping to join a friendly, experienced skipper or crew for a sailing adventure lasting anywhere from a few days to 3 weeks.
I'd love to learn everything from handling sails, navigation, anchoring, and standing watches to the everyday realities of living aboard a cruising yacht.
I'm particularly interested in coastal cruising, island hopping, and eventually gaining offshore sailing experience.
✈️ LOCATION IS NOT A PROBLEM!
I'm based in British Columbia, Canada, but I'm willing to pay for my own airfare to meet the right boat anywhere in the world.
Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, South Pacific, Mediterranean, or somewhere completely unexpected — I'm open to possibilities!
Available starting mid-November 2026, for trips up to 3 weeks.
Not looking for paid work. I'm happy to contribute my skills, time, energy, and discuss reasonable shared expenses in exchange for an opportunity to sail, learn, and experience the adventure.
WHY SAILING?
I've always loved adventure, exploring new places, and learning practical skills. Lately, the idea of owning a sailboat and exploring the world's oceans has become a serious interest of mine.
But before taking that leap, I'd like to learn from experienced sailors, understand what life aboard is really like, and see firsthand what it takes to safely operate and maintain a cruising yacht.
I understand that sailing isn't always sunshine and cocktails. There are watches to stand, dishes to wash, things to repair, and challenging days at sea. I'm ready to be part of the crew, not just a passenger!
So, if you're looking for an extra pair of capable hands, someone who can troubleshoot an engine, help with repairs, cook dinner, catch a fish, and enthusiastically learn the ropes — I'd love to hear from you!
Feel free to comment below or send me a private message. Recommendations and introductions are also very welcome!
Fair winds, following seas, and hopefully see you aboard! ⛵
