A big thank you to those I have sailed with and those who have contacted me but I am now committed until the end of January 2024 as I am crewing on a Catamaran on another Transatlantic. I will be in the Caribbean by the end of January , probably Grenada if anyone is looking for crew to move through the islands.
I don’t need the miles , I just love the ocean and dealing with the challenges that inevitably arise on a boat. If you need experienced assistance to get you to your cruising ground safely then let me help. I’ll pay my own fares and a contribution to my own food . It’s a win for both of us.
I have Completed 7 Transatlantic crossings , most in large powered vessels many years ago but in 2021 and again in 2022, I sailed across in lagoon catamarans, 1 as crew , 1 as First Mate (references from previous yacht owners available ) In Addition I've crewed from St Martin to the USA via the Bahamas. On each boat I have sailed on the owners have asked me to come back out and sail with them again which, I would like to think , shows that I was competent.
Based in Scotland in the UK , I’m looking to be part of a crew on a boat where I can expand my personal knowledge, improve my skills and contribute as a valued team member and hopefully have a laugh on the way and beer at the end.
Retired now from the emergency services I can keep a cool head in a crisis. Previously trained in first aid , sea survival , marine firefighting and Helicopter underwater escape training I can bring a set of skillls that hopefully you would never need.
I have way more than just a working knowledge of Diesel engines and can strip a cyl head, lap the valves and seats and rebuild without issue. I maintain a good understanding of boat systems and fault finding from years of own boat ownership.
As an RYA Yachtmaster I can hold night watch and allow you to sleep soundly knowing your vessel is in safe hands.
I don’t smoke , take drugs or bring any immature drama or life baggage.
Any trips considered , I have sailed the Atlantic East to West (2021 & 2022) but I am fortunate to have the time and good health to go anywhere. Trips of 1 to 4 weeks would be ideal , extended cruising for several months is less likely. Med / Atlantic / Caribbean would be first choices but open to other areas.
