Good company, hard work, and adventure!

Hi there, thanks for viewing my profile!

I live in Southern California and I've taken several sailing classes, but I haven't skippered anything larger than a J22. I hope to build my skills and crew for a sail across the Atlantic. I would be happy to contribute basic skills and positive vibes to your journey! I'm a hard worker and and friendly soul.

Ideally, I'd love to do some cruising for 1-2 weeks starting October 12th, but I am flexible from October 12th to December 12th and I could also join for a week in September before September 23rd.

A little about me...
I heard this quote in high school and it has stuck with me ever since... "I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world." This describes how I feel about life!

My history...
I got two degrees in electrical engineering and physics, but after graduating, I realized I wanted to work with people much more than technology. I taught at an art school for a few years. I didn't understand enough about the world and I wanted to learn how to make a difference, so I went back to school for international studies and worked for a few years in the labor movement. Now, I'm pursuing my PhD in educational psychology. I believe in the power of education to improve quality of life and bridge differences! I have a few research projects at the moment: youth civic engagement, psychology of self, and brain-computer interfaces. Next year I'll be applying for professor positions. Until then, I have a lot of flexibility to travel and work remotely!

My approach to sailing...
I love traveling and new experiences! The main reason I travel is because it provides opportunities to learn about other cultures and myself. I am super excited to sail because it is a unique way of life and a powerful means to experience different cultures (and I've always enjoyed being on the ocean). Eventually I hope to own my own boat and make an ocean crossing. I love the communal aspect of sailing and I look forward to going on adventures with interesting people! I will cook, clean, do maintenance, and of course, help sail!
