Based West Cornwall, UK, looking for opportunities in UK and Europe :-)
I have crewing experience but no formal sail qualifications, my most recent passage being from A Coruna - Crosshaven - Falmouth on a Rival 36 (760 miles). I have a good feel the sea and boats, having grown up in a seafaring family in west Cornwall, UK, and also having worked as a diving instructor for 10 years in the UK, Egypt and Caribbean. Regretably I have more power experience than sail, which I'd like to correct!
I consider myself to be easy going, level headed and pragmatic, and I get on with most people. I'm a non-smoking omnivore but also happy with a veggie crew and diet. I'm not just a fairweather sailor, and have only been seasick perhaps a couple of times. I'm okay with basic berthing and I'm happy to pay my fair share onboard.
I'm located in West Cornwall, but can travel for the right opportunity, and I'm looking for either day sailing or longer voyages of up to a couple of weeks, to increase my sail experience.
Ashore I'm studying boatbuilding, restoration and repair at a local marine school and am personally refitting my 38 ft / 11.7 m wooden ketch. She was built in 1973 and needs quite a bit of work, including replacement of planking, keel bolts, repairs to masts, superstructure, electrics and mechanicals. One day!
Sailor and gentleman
I sailed with Dan from A Coruna, Spain to Crosshaven, Ireland on a Rival 36, together with her owner Martin. Across Biscay, seas were lumpy and winds strong for two/three days of the five day passage, then thankfully we got some better weather. Dan is great company, always taking action and helping. Solid sea legs. It would be great to sail with him again, hopefully on his own boat which he is now resorting.
