JOIN THE ADVENTURE! (An epic voyage from California to Colombia)

S//V Malolo, a Newport 33, leaving SF BAY with the next good weather window— hopefully by the end of January—for San Diego and then on to Cabo San Lucas and La Paz. Afterward, our journey continues through Southern Mexico, Central America, and Panama. Later, we’ll traverse the Canal, visit the magnificent San Blas Islands, and eventually arrive in the Colombian Caribbean cities of Cartagena and Santa Marta. In the future (2027), some island hopping and Brazil.

I’m “Profe” Steve, and I have just undergone a year and a half of preparation in anticipation of completing the recent Baja Ha-Ha. I did do it, but more like a practice run on two other sailboats when I lost my main partner to a death in the family at the last moment. My sailboat—nor my dreams—have not disappeared, however. She had been thoroughly worked over before I left and waited while I was gone. And now we’re getting started on a repeat course. Patience is being well employed while waiting for the best mates, seas, and some wind!

We’ll need a strong, easygoing mate or two for each of the different legs of the trip, beginning with the California coast and Baja California. “Some” previous offshore cruising experience a must, the more the better. Best would be to meet soon in the Bay Area or at a stop along our route to see how we mesh prior for joining us on later segments. Most differences could be adjusted for, except in the case of the extremely unfit, heavy drinkers or cigarette smokers.

Let’s have a fantastic time sailing afar together; a safe, positive, healthy, and sane one!

This isn’t just a crewing opportunity, but a collective adventure, including input on our itinerary,
shared food and fuel (motoring only when needed) costs, cooking, duties, watches, etc., but also taking in the sights, diving and fishing, fun port visits, and even language acquisition. Learn or improve your Spanish while sailing with me, as I am a Latin American Studies scholar.

Interested sailors, please contact us asap with a personal message stating your level of experience, why you would want to join this adventure, and what kinds of skills, etc., you could contribute to it.

All inquiries will be considered and replied to.

Thanks for reading,

Profe
