Oriental NC -> New London CT

I'm looking for one crew with previous offshore experience to help me deliver my Valiant 42 from Oriental, NC to New London, CT . Another crew has already committed and can leave as early as June 3. I am still waiting for a repair to be completed (replacement freezer), and I plan to set out as soon as that is done and I have identified a second experienced and compatible crew. The exact departure date is negotiable, depending on crew time availability, and we will delay departure if necessary, owing to weather. Weather permitting, this will be an "outside" passage (i.e., no ICW except for heading from Oriental to the Beaufort, NC inlet -- then to Montauk and into the Long Island Sound). I anticipate that the passage will take around 4-5 days. Since there will be three of us aboard, we'll stand 3-hour solo watches--with the schedule naturally rotating daily. Crew are expected to share responsibility for preparing (easy) dinners and other tasks as necessary. Crew pay travel expenses to and from my boat (I can pick crew up in New Bern, NC); I pay all expenses onboard (excluding alcohol). Strictly no smoking.

  • Boat descriptionAllora is a well-appointed yacht, with all that is needed for a safe, comfortable offshore sail. Communications include VHF (including handhelds), SSB, and AIS transponder. (I subscribe to Chris Parker for weather, so we can get personalized forecasts while under way.) She has a chart plotter and depth, speed, and wind instruments, as well as backup paper charts, an autopilot, an electric winch in addition to the manual ones, solar panels, and a watermaker. Safety equipment includes a life raft, several tossable devices, and an epirb. The stove and burners are propane, and the galley has a freezer along with refrigeration. There have been a number of upgrades since she was built in 2000.
