Heading to the Caribbean/ Brasil 11/2025 in a Novice Crew or Voluntary work position
Hello,
I want to spend my sabbatical in South America and combine that with a sailing experience from Europe to the American continent.
I'm looking mainly for a sailing boat which aims to South America (via Caribbean islands). I'm open to where I go on board - preferably in France, Spain or Portugal.
In order to prepare myself for that journey, I obtained the International Certificate for Operators of Pleasure Craft, CWM, IWM and IWS this year. My sailing and motoring experience on coastal waters are about 100 nm on the baltic sea. I also helped to prepare the boat for craning and to prepare it for the first trip of the year. The boat was 10m long and besides the mainsail with a furling jib.
So, besides of being very new to sailing, I already learned a lot and I know how it is to live on a boat with little space. During these days we experienced different conditions of wind (3-5) and waves (up to 1m). I know that an Atlantic crossing can be much more heavy and difficult, but I am sure that I can stand it and that I can support and work for you on and under deck.
I have especially fun in keeping the logbook and other documentation.
I didn't write it in the working options, but I can also cook for a group of people.
I'm living in a community of 80 people, sharing economy and working in collectives. So I'm used to communicate with people and live in social contexts.
I am economist, by now working in a day care for elderly people with demencia.
So my budget is low and I can imagine to earn some little money by working on the boat as also work for free or contribute by sharing expenses like alimentation and port fees.
