Crew for delivery from Med to DK
I bought a 1983 40 foot steel sailboat that I fell in love with at first sight. Only problem is; it's in Greece and I'm in Denmark. Therefore, it is currently underway towards Denmark with a great captain at the helm, and maybe you as a guest? Write me for info on where the boat is now. As per 6/11, it is in Palermo, Sicily.
As I am not able to take that much time off work, I am looking for some crew to navigate the ship the whole route (or most of it) without me onboard.
As the boat has a draft of 1.9 meter, it is not possible to sail it through the canals of Europe. But that is boring anyway, as it is motoring all the way. :) So, the boat needs to be sailed around the continent of Europe; first west through the mediterranean, passing greece, italy, france, spain, then through Gibraltar turning north along the coast of portugal, then over the Biscay to France, and then following the coast of western Europe to Denmark. A great trip seeing most of Europe! The trip will probably last 2 months depending on weather etc.
The skills needed for this won't be too much, as I have found a captain with a lot of experience and able to teach you the magic of sailing. However I do expect you to have some ability to listen, learn, proactively help with every little job that needs to get done on a boat; cleaning, cooking, guard duty, etc.
Ability to record parts of the journey on video would be a nice to have.
And now for the boat: she is a mastheaded bermuda rigged sloop, made from quality materials in Denmark in 1983. She was 36 foot from the factory, but was expanded to 40 foot by professionals in 2003. All halyards and sheets are run to the cockpit, the jib is on a furler. So it is a boat that can be sailed short-handed or even singlehanded. It does not have a world of modern comforts (or space), but it does have a functioning head, galley w stove, burner, sink and electrical water pump, two aft cabins and a v-birth, and a cosy saloon area. In the cockpit is the old-fashioned tiller rudder (but with autopilot), a bimini to shade the sun, engine controls, plotter, fresh water shower hose. There is a windwane (or wind rudder) available for those long stretches as well. The engine is a 2009 Vetus m4.17 diesel with 42 hp, it runs every time.
I will probably charge €20/day for food, fuel, etc.
I will arrange for us to meet (virtually probably) in order to see if we share the same ideas of how the job should be done etc.
