Bound for Caribbean

I'm seeking crew with several possibilities in mind. First of all I'd like a capable first mate to help with docking, meal making, watches and general boat help in exchange for passage. My current sail plan includes leaving from Norfolk, VA in early November, sail down to Fort Lauderdale to meet up with a buddy and his boat. From there we will buddy boat through Bahamas into Caribbean. I am planning to set up a small charter in the USVI islands, so at that point there's the prospect of earning income.

Also, I am considering sailing to Grenada next hurricane season rather than coming back to North America. As is often the case my plans are written in the sand at low tide.

Regarding the right person(s) - if there's a chance to find some compatible romantic company that would sure make sharing this lifestyle richer. As well, I love finding like-minded friends who enjoy the sea and want a slice of adventure along the way. Expectations can sure develop their own wings before getting to know someone in real time, so let's be kind and thoughtful.

Respectfully, I am aghast at the destructive element in the White House at the moment and am actively involved in protests, advocacy for the climate, opposing income inequality et al. So, Trump supporters while I would gladly lend a hand at sea as fellow souls however I would prefer not as crew, again respectfully.

I pick up the costs of operating the boat - fuel, repairs, etc. I cover basic food too when we are on a passage. However alcohol, specialty items, treats per each person are their responsibility.

I prefer working through issues up front with straight talk.

I play a half decent amateur jazz clarinet and would love other musicians to play with.

Your questions are welcome - if this looks like an boat you'd like to sail let's open a conversation and see where it goes.

Fair winds to all!

Rob

  • Boat descriptionShangri La is an offshore cruising vessel equipped with new (2018) Garmin electronics, two well maintained yanmar engines, a 7.4 Kw gen and safety gear I'll detail about later. This is an Owner's Version - one hull is captain's cabin, the other hull has one bedroom cabins, each with fully private bathrooms and showers. There's a Bauer scuba compressor and 4 100 liter scuba tanks on board. Watermaker that produces 40 liters/hour Air Conditioning in each cabin and salon. Excellent sound system The boat is in near bristol shape, she sails marvelously. As with cats in general, upwind is a grudge. New mainsail, good jib, very good gennaker. Rocna 88 lb anchor with new chain. Full galley 1100 watt solar panels, wind generator
